Obituary

Marybeth Tregarthen June 23, 1965 – October 31, 2024 Marybeth Tregarthen, a beloved community member and devoted sister, aunt, and friend, passed away on October 31, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 59 years old. Marybeth grew up in Bay Shore, New York, and later made her home in Brightwaters. She was a fixture in the Bay Shore community, staying active and involved throughout her life. She was predeceased by her beloved parents, Peggy and Harry Tregarthen. Marybeth is survived by her cherished brother, William Tregarthen, his wife Erin, and their son Jack, who all adored her deeply. Known for her generous spirit, humor, and boundless love for family, friends, and the beach, Marybeth will be dearly missed by those who had the honor of knowing her. Marybeth dedicated over 30 years to her role as a production manager working at Disney, a company she held close to her heart. She was a devoted fan of all things Disney, and she poured passion and dedication into her work, building a long-lasting career that brought joy to many. Summers found her at the beaches she adored—especially Fire Island’s Kismet, where she spent decades of weekends in a shared beach house among friends. Her latest summer haven, fondly known as the Pool House, was the site of countless memories, laughter, and cherished moments with her close circle. She also loved her place in Palm Beach Shores, Florida, where she spent time with friends, creating a lifetime of stories, tales, and shenanigans. Marybeth’s humor, warmth, and love for storytelling brought light into the lives of so many. Her legacy is a testament to the power of friendship, kindness, and an enduring sense of fun. Diagnosed with cancer in April 2024, she faced her illness with bravery and resilience, surrounded by the friends and family she loved. In her final days, Marybeth was cared for in hospice, surrounded by the love and presence of those dearest to her.

My heartfelt condolences go out to MB’s family. She was my roommate at “the Wayne House” at Villanova. She was probably the easiest person to ever share a room with! Later on in life, our Villanova group would get together to catch-up, share stories and talk about the old times. I will miss MB at those gatherings. I so looked forward to them.

i wish to offer my condolences to MB’s family and friends. I met MB at Villanova University in 1984 when some of my friends were lucky enough to be placed in the same dorm as she was. She was a year older than us, but fell right into our Group and what fun we had! With MB there were always smiles and laughter and good times. Growing up in farm country in New Jersey. I was delighted to be invited into MB’s Long Island, world, full of boating and beaches and great get togethers; her parents always so generous and hospitable. We spent many summer weekends out on fire island with Marybeth. After graduation real life sets in and we were not in as much contact but several years ago we girls, me, MB, Coleen, Rita, and Nancy promised to get together every summer and enjoy each other‘s company; mostly just sitting around and laughing, reminiscing, and making new memories. We will miss your light and laughter so much MB. Rest in Peace.

I met Marybeth (MBT) so many years ago that I can't even recall when it was. We met on the train and became friendly, then wound up working together at Disney Publishing. We worked side by side for many years, through some crazy times, but mostly great times. The Disney team was like no other - a family through and through. We ran into each other occasionally after that - at Kismet mostly, where she held court. There was barely a person in the bar or on the dance floor who DIDN'T know her. Her smile was infectious.. and she always seemed to be smiling. I am so sorry to hear this news.. she will definitely be missed by many as she touched so many people over the years. My condolences to her family and friends. Janet Castiglione
