Obituary
Aksel Eugene Ahn was born on June 7, 2018 at LIJ, Queens NY to Monica Yoo and Min (Peter) Ahn. Aksel passed away at home on January 22, 2024. Aksel was born with a gene mutation, KCNT1, which caused him to have a rare and severe epilepsy disorder. His condition was known as Malignant Migrating Partial Seizures of Infancy (MMPSI). Aksel spent most of his first two years with hospital visits and long hospital stays. He was a true warrior who battled every day since infancy. Aksel had seizures every day despite his numerous medications around the clock. Due to the severity of the seizures, he was medically fragile. He was non-verbal, unable to move on his own, had heart and respiratory issues, immune compromised, weak bones, etc. He fought hard to his very last day.
Despite his challenges and obstacles, Aksel enjoyed his bath time and time in the water. He loved singing and dancing to music. He loved going outside and going on trips. Aksel enjoyed his time with his parents and grandparents.
Aksel is finally free from all the medical devices and hospital visits. No more labs or running tests. Most importantly he is no longer restrained physically or verbally. Aksel is finally able to talk, scream, sit, jump, walk and run as a free spirit.
We would like to thank all his specialists, therapists, palliative and hospice team throughout all the years. Thank you for Make-A-Wish to make his first real vacation possible.
We would also like to thank Chapey & Sons Funeral Home for donating their time and services for Aksel.
In honor of Aksel, please consider a donation to the KCNT1 Foundation to continue his legacy and help many more warriors like Aksel.
Rest in Peace.
