Adolfo “Dolf” Iurillo

Dolf Iurillo passed quietly with his friends and loving family at his side in his West Islip home on June 2, 2018. Dolf has spent all of his 86 years as a south shore Long Island resident of Lindenhurst, Babylon, and West Islip. After attending Lindenhurst High School, he received an appointment to the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point. Upon graduation, he was commissioned as an Ensign in the US Navy and spent 12 years in the Naval Reserve. He married Mary Lee Warrender of Manhasset in 1956 and was the proud father of one daughter and one son; Camille Iurillo and her husband, Joe Petrella of St Petersburg Florida and Wayne Iurillo and his wife, Julie Miller of Indianapolis Indiana.

Dolf’s professional career began as an engineer at Republic Aircraft leading the design of the rain removal system for the F105 fighter. After a few years at Republic he became a small business owner in the home heating oil industry at Diamond Oil Company in Lindenhurst. Dolf was an avid sailor and boater throughout his life on Long Island. He enjoyed the water and the bounty of Great South Bay. He was also an active volunteer in the community presiding as president of the Lions Club and numerous other local community groups. In retirement Mary Lee and Dolf enjoyed boating up and down the intercostal waterway. Dolf then worked part time for the next 15 years in a second career in the financial services industry. Dolf is survived by his Daughter Camille Iurillo and his Son Wayne Iurillo as well as grandchildren Caroline Iurillo and Alyssa Iurillo.
