Obituary

Kathleen Nickel, of Islip, New York, passed away peacefully on October 25th, 2024. She was a devoted mother, cherished grandmother, and loving great-grandmother, whose warmth and kindness touched the lives of everyone around her. Kathleen is survived by her beloved children: Joseph Nickel (Marina DelCore O’Rielly), Valerie Herrera (Edward Herrera), and Vincent Nickel (Marcy Nickel). She was a proud grandmother to Anthony Briody, Joseph Nickel, Karlie Herrera, Courtney Herrera, Olivia Nickel, Abbie Nickel, Edward Herrera, Sophia Nickel, James Nickel, and Elizabeth Nickel. Kathleen’s legacy also includes her great-grandson, Maxwell Kolcziski. Born into a close-knit family, Kathleen was the dear sister of Robert Pilger, Connie Portesy, James Pilger, Edward Pilger, and Judy Sullivan. A lover of books, the beach, and all things glittery and purple, Kathleen brought joy and light to those around her with her kindness and vibrant spirit. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects at The Fredrick J. Chapey & Sons East Islip Funeral Home, located at 200 East Main Street (½ Mile West of the S.S. Parkway, Exit 45). Visitation will be held on October 29th, 2024, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. A religious service will take place at the funeral home on October 30th, 2024, at 9:45 AM, followed by interment at Pinelawn Memorial Park, Pinelawn, NY. Kathleen Nickel will be deeply missed by all who knew her. May her spirit continue to shine brightly in our memories.
