Obituary
Kurrus – Harold D., “Skip”, of West Islip, NY on October 12, 2024. Beloved husband of Regina “Jeannie” for 57 years, Devoted father to Kathy (Scott) Weber, Patty (T.J.) Kurrus Sharkey, Eileen (George) Rainer, Colleen (Tim) Kearney and Kevin (Claudia) Kurrus. Loving grandfather of 15: Scott, Katie, Kristine, Kyra, Ryan, Colin, Nolan, Brady, George, Megan, Sophia, Madeleine, Isobel, Anabelle, and Bennett. Cherished brother of William Kurrus and MaryKate McLaughlin. Predeceased by his dear sister-in-law, Sister Margaret Raibaldi, CSJ. Special uncle and friend to many.
Skip spent his life serving others. He retired from the New York City Transit Police Department with rank of Sergeant after 20 years of service. His military career began with the United States Navy. He was also a firefighter with the United States Air National Guard, retiring after 25 years of service.
He worked tirelessly and cared for his family endlessly. Skip had a vibrancy for life and his love for his family knew no bounds.
He will be dearly missed and his love will continue on through his adoring family.
Reposing at The Fredrick J. Chapey & Sons West Islip Funeral Home, 1225 Montauk Hwy., (1/4 mile west of the Robert Moses Cswy.). Visiting Wednesday, October 16, 2024 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM and Thursday, October 17, 2024 from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, October 18, 2024 at 10:30 AM at Our Lady of Lourdes R.C. Church, West Islip, NY. Burial at Calverton National Cemetery.
