Obituary
ANZALONE, Anthony, 101, of Commack, NY on September 30, 2024.
Beloved husband of the late Connie. Cherished father of Janet and Robert Gatti, Steven Anzalone, and Richard Anzalone. Devoted grandfather of Beverly Jan Geesin and Simon Mollan, Kristin Gatti, Jeffrey Gatti, Derek and Jin Parady Anzalone, Julie Anzalone, and Kathryn Anzalone. Dear brother of Josephine Figliolia, Anna DiCarlo, and Mary and Vincent Colonna.
He was a proud veteran of the United States Army Air Force as staff sergeant from 1943 to 1946. Earned B.S. in electrical engineering from N.Y.U. School of Engineering in 1955 (and later obtained master’s degree). Tony worked as an electrical engineer from 1955 until his retirement in 1991 at Sperry Gyroscope (later became Unisys and then Paramax).
Everyone knows he was actually born on Christmas Eve, although the midwife decided to put January 5 on the birth certificate. Tony loved to spend time with everyone in his extensive family. Famous for the July 4th party in our backyard every year for the whole family, complete with fireworks (brought from Brooklyn by someone who will not be named) and raw clams and the grill. Enjoyed fixing things, playing poker and bridge, spoiling grandchildren, and was a very good harmonica player. Remained a loyal Dodgers fan even after they left Brooklyn (dem Bums). He was also a diehard Dallas Cowboys fan because of their cheerleaders. Loved to eat waffles and extra crispy bacon at the local diner. He set up an elaborate layout of Lionel trains every Christmas in the basement for all the children (and adults) in neighborhood to enjoy.
Reposing at the Fredrick J. Chapey & Sons West Islip Funeral Home, 1225 Montauk Hwy. Visiting on Thursday, from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM and from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM.
Celebration of the Liturgy of Christian Burial on Friday, 11:00 AM at Christ the King R.C. Church, Commack, NY. Interment with military honors at 1:30 PM at Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton, NY.
