Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to Jody Paul Leggio Sr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and a friend to many. Born on April 24, 1956 in Bayshore, NY to parents John Leggio Jr. and Irene Casale Leggio, Jody passed away peacefully on May 23, 2024 at the age of 68.
A self described curmudgeon, Jody was quite the opposite. Always armed with quick wit and a joke for any situation, he was happy to share a laugh with anyone in the room. He loved the beach, Harley Davidsons, his many pets, nature, surrounding wildlife, his fig trees, and, above all else, his family. After retiring from Verizon on Long Island, Jody was proud of the life he built in Sunset Beach, NC. With the sun shining down, his toes in the sand, and his soul mate by his side, he was content living his golden years with the slow pace and charm of the South.
In the weeks and months following September 11, 2001, Jody was part of the crew that helped restore telephone service to lower Manhattan following the tragic attacks on our nation. Working at ground zero had a profound impact on his life, and he was proud of the contributions he and his union brothers and sisters were able to provide to a grieving city. Although that work is ultimately what would lead to his declining health, it's doubtful he would have changed a thing, even in hindsight.
Mourning Jody's loss are his wife, Linda, his children and their significant others, Jody Jr. and Tricia, Dawn and Winton, Jenna-Marie, Vincent and Alanna, Jay and Brittney, Jessica and Jacob, Nicholas and Aliyah; brother John; sisters Cindy and Susan; and grandchildren Gianna-Rose, Riley, Jacob, Adaleena, Arriella, Casey, Lucinda, Oliver Anthony, and Vincent Jr.
