Obituary

CAGNO, Rocco, 94 years wise, of Mount Sinai and Wantagh, New York, passed away peacefully at his home on May 20, 2024. Rocco “Sonny” was born on January 22, 1930 in Manhattan, New York. He is predeceased by his parents Joseph and Rosaria “Sadie”, and his brother Bob and sister-in-law Marie. Rocco was married to his wife Josephine for 73 years. He is also survived by the true joys of his life, his children: Robert and his fiancé Fran, Raquel and her husband Joseph, grandkitties Mia and Pearl, Nicole and her husband Keith, grandpups Kensie and Shelby, his granddaughter Stacey and her husband Chris, and grandson Robert. “Sonny” and his younger brother Bob were raised by their parents, Sadie and Joseph, in Manhattan. While attending Ben Franklin HS, Rocco met Josephine who was a student at an all-girls school nearby. On January 21, 1951 they married at St. Cecelia Church, NYC and soon starting raising their family. In 1956, they moved to Wantagh to embrace suburban life. Raising four children was the true glory of his life. Sunday gravy with the family, working as a printer for Newsday from 1973 until his retirement in 1994, embarking on an entrepreneurship with Debonair Limousine, washing cars with his girls, and maintaining his picturesque landscape, peony garden and koi pond were just a few of the simple treasures he enjoyed. Spending time with his family was truly valued and treasured.

A true gentlemen, genuinely kind and sincere are just a few attributes of our Dad. Ninety four and a half years just isn’t enough when someone is your “Roc” and continually uplifts your soul. Are we blessed? Without a doubt! Missing him has left us in tears, but he has filled our hearts with immense love, pure goodness and beautiful memories. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 23, 2024 at Chapey & Sons, 20 Hicksville Road, Bethpage, NY from 4 – 8 pm. On Friday, May 24th there will be a brief prayer service at 10 am at Chapey & Sons in Bethpage. Burial at 11:30 am at the Cemetery of the Holy Rood, 111 Old Country Road, Westbury, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Rocco’s honor be made to Tunnels to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Blvd, Staten Island, NY 10306/T2T.org, or Beagle Freedom Project at BFP.com, https://love.bfp.org/fundraiser/5561786?is_new=true.
