Dennis J. O’Neill Long time resident of Great River, NY passed peacefully in the arms of his beloved on May 10, 2024. Devoted husband of 57 years to his high school sweetheart Patricia, father to Brian (Annette), Michael (Theresa) and Susan (Kurt). Cherished Grandpa/Papa of Steven, Alexander, Isabel, Zachary, Tatum and Justin. Caring brother, uncle and friend to many. Dennis developed and maintained a strong work ethic throughout his life. As a child he was an altar boy, paperboy, and grocery worker. After high school, he enlisted and served two years in the Platoon Leaders course with the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves. His dream of becoming a pilot was dashed upon discovery of his color blindness. He was honorably discharged and pursued his passion of aviation at JFK airport in both operations and sales. Through his hard work and driving entrepreneurial spirit he built several successful logistic businesses, providing a livelihood for hundreds of people over the years. Dennis will be remembered as a man who valued his family above all. The rewards of his work allowed him to bestow the best life has to offer upon his family. He loved travel, adventure, boating and fishing on the beautiful Great South Bay. He also had a passion for food, particularly bakeries, often traveling miles apart for breads versus desserts because to him it mattered greatly. His captivating manner and endearing smile could charm any audience he desired. His large physical presence yet quiet nature leave us a lifetime of lessons, providing hope, guidance and path to an equally fulfilling and beautiful life.
