Obituary
Jean M. Davenport passed away peacefully at Massapequa Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Amityville on April 17, 2024 at the age of 98. Jean was born Jean M. Lynch, in Brooklyn, NY on October 29, 1925 to Lucy Jones and James Lynch. She is predeceased by her beloved husband Ernest Davenport, son John Davenport, dear brothers Joseph Lynch of Massapequa and Bethpage NY, and James Lynch of Glen Ridge, NJ. She is survived by her devoted sister Sr. Barbara Lynch, SC, of Wellesley, MA., eight loving nieces and nephews, 19 grandnieces and nephews and 11 great-grandnieces and nephews. Jean worked for many years as a secretary in real estate and law firms and for three years for the US government in Wiesbaden, Germany. Her latest position was serving in the rectory of St. Martin of Tours rectory in Bethpage, NY.
Jean’s life was a story of powerful faith and loyal friendships. She had a great sense humor and of adventure, traveling throughout the US and Europe, journaling her interesting experiences and sharing funny tales with frequent postcards and letters to home. Jean leaves behind a legacy of true and lasting friendships. She had a distinct gift of kind and patient listening, a common tribute paid by many who have extended their recent condolences. Jean’s was a rich and joyful life. She lives on in the grateful hearts of all who crossed her path.
