You were an exceptional dad, always brimming with pride for your children. Your stories about Tricia and your love for her were a testament to the depth of your heart.
Your legacy lives on through the lives you’ve touched, the wisdom you’ve imparted, and the love you’ve shared. Rest in peace, dear friend. You will forever be in our hearts.

Dear Trisha and Family,
I am so sorry to hear about the passing of your husband and Dad. It was always nice to see him and share a beverage and a laugh at many of the Farrell / Bilello functions. I can vividly remember how much fun he was at Alexa’s wedding trying to get us all to sing Irish songs at the after party. My prayers are with you all.
With sympathy and love,
Maureen and John Mcdonough

Trisha and family- John was one of a kind. My memories of him run the gamut from when he was a kid visiting Tom and Jimmy at LaSalle to him, sitting at my desk in the Brooklyn DA office when he made an arrest. And of course seeing him at parent teacher night at SJB in the hallway! He was always true to himself, no show, no ego. We need more men like him today. But his legacy is as a husband and father; he was so proud of you all when ever I would run into him. He was taken far too soon and I hope you take solace in the promise that at the end, every tear shall be wiped away.....

What a cops cop!! And always humble!! I came to the 77 from the academy and Hanley was one of the senior cops. Showed us the ropes and kept us rookies in place, but always in a humble matter. His shield 13199 and mine was 13149. Very close he would tell me, but not close enough. LoL. Most important advice he always gave, was go home to your family!! He was a family man. I have been doing just that, coming home to my family. John, I’m retiring in a few months. Who knew one of your pewny little rookies about to be out the door. LoL. Thank you for your advice, the laughs and the real talk about this job. May you rest in peace always. Sending prayers to your family #77ForLife #13199

So very sorry to hear this news. John and I went to the police Academy together and both ended up in the 77 precinct. We rode as partners a few times and we had a lot of great times and good laughs together. He will be sorely missed.

Cannot imagine not seeing your smiling happy face nor hearing that booming voice in song anymore. It’s devastating that you’re gone and words of condolence's can’t convey the depth of our sorrow. Hugs and prayers to Trish all the Hanley’s.
