Obituary of Robert John Rabbitt

Robert J. Rabbitt, 99, of the Bronx, Hicksville, and most recently of Plainview, passed away March 13, 2024. Bob was born to Marion Smith Rabbitt and Alois Rabbitt in the Bronx on January 15, 1925. He graduated from Dewitt Clinton High School in 1943 and then registered for the draft. He served in the 29th Division of the army where he was injured and honorably discharged and given a Purple Heart. Bob was married to his loving wife, Irene, for 62 happy years in Hicksville, where they raised 8 children. Bob is survived by 3 sons - Bob (Diane), John (Rosie), and Paul and 5 daughters - Kathleen (Bill), Suzanne (Lou), Clare, Anne (John), and Irene (Jim). Bob enjoyed his 26 grandchildren and their spouses, and 32 (and counting) great-grandchildren. Bob is pre-deceased by his wife, Irene A. Buetow Rabbitt, his brother, Edward A. Rabbitt, his sister-in-law, Dorothy E. Johnson Rabbitt, and his sister, Jeanne Rabbitt. Bob was a devoted husband and father. He loved spending time with his family, doing crossword puzzles, shopping the snack aisle, listening to Glenn Miller, watching his vacation tapes, and telling "dad jokes."
