Obituary
On Thursday February 1st, William Timothy Callahan, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and prankster suddenly passed away from a heart attack surrounded by his family. He was 69 years old.
Bill was always the funniest guy in the room and the life of the party. He loved rock and roll, attending over 400 concerts in his life. He loved the Islanders, Jets and Mets, attending over 600 games. But most of all he loved his wife, children and grandchildren. He was an amazing dad and "Pa" who dedicated his life to his kids and grandkids. His passing leaves a void that will never be filled.
Bill is survived by his loving wife Laurie of 42 years, his children and best friends Dan (Beth) and Faith (Cameron), his grandchildren and the lights of his life Caden, Jack, Oliver, and Palmer, his sister Mary (Ben) who was a second mother to him and also a victim of his many pranks, his brothers and partners in crime Tim (Terry) and Mike, his beloved pug Sampson, his mother-in-law Carmela, his nieces and nephews, the DVR Extender who was like a 3rd child, his many friends and former co-workers who enjoyed hilarious late night texts about his life, Leo and Paul who went to every concert with him, the many kids that he coached in hockey and soccer throughout the years, and his idol Larry David.
Bill's last text was this quote from Larry David: "I think I did my best as a person who hates people but still has to be amongst them".
Everyone has a Bill story and we'd love to hear them all. Please share a memory of Bill on the tribute wall on this website.
Visitation will be held at Chapey & Sons Funeral Home in East Islip on Friday February 9th between 3pm-5pm and 7pm-9pm. A Funeral Mass will be held St. Mary's Church on February 10 at 9:15AM.

I’m saddened to hear the news of Cal’s passing. I’m his neighbor and we joked that my dog’s name is Callie and his last name Callahan so I always called him Cal.
We would great conversations about music and concerts and working for the government. He would joke that I have 15 more years of service but would be quick to mention it goes so fast and enjoy every moment of life. Ironically my kids and I made a positivity rock and put it in his driveway just the other day- I wonder if he saw it? It’s picture of a diamond with the words “Shine on”
Cal really was a bright star on this earth and I’ll miss our conversations. Stephenie Scott

I’ve known Bill since the 70’s. Bill has always been such a nice guy, so funny he should have been a comedian, always ready to play a prank on someone and he was very good at it too! Bill was a family man who loved his family dearly. He always sent pictures of his grand children with such great stories to go with them. I think Boss Baby definitely takes after his grandpa. Bill
had a great memory of all the concerts he attended, he could give you every detail!
I’m so grateful Bill & I remained friends for all these years. He could always make me laugh. I will miss my friend, the texts & the laughs. I’m sure Bill will have a prank waiting for each of us when we meet again. He wouldn’t have it any other way.
Rest In Peace my friend

Just remembered one of my favorite memories, it was Take your Child to work day and Bill walked in with 5 year old Faith, the cutest little girl and Bill put me in charge of Faith for Ladies room visits. What I remember is having this image of Bill, funny, wise guy, very sarcastic, but walking around the office with Faith,,I saw a whole new Bill. He was so proud of her and I will never forget that day when I truly realized what a Big mush he was

I first met Bill in 1992 at NAVPRO Bethpage, we worked in Contracts together. I was usually the brunt of a lot of his pranks. I also had alot of nicknames from Bill. My maiden name was Mc Neil and depending on how Bill thought I was acting that day, I had Mc Nasty, Mc Sensitive, Mc Nervous and being an intern, Mc Intern. I have so many memorable memories of Bill and they all bring a smile to my face. Even through retirement, we have maintained our friendship thru texts. Hard to believe someone so full of life is gone. Having a hard time accepting, no more texts or laughs from Bill. My deepest condolences to Bills family who he treasured so much. RIP my dear friend, you will be sorely missed

I met Bill in the mid 80s while working at the AFPRO Office, located in the AIL Manufacturing Facility,
Deer Park NY. We were Coworkers, Friends and eventually he was my Team Leader after many of us
were relocated to our DCMA Garden City Facility.
From Sports to Music, even work sometimes, conversations were alway welcome, friendly and
we all had a lot of laughs.
We had a great team and we worked well together, despite occasional hiccups. When we were assigned computers and email addresses there were always a message from Bill, or just a rambling thought.
Bill always put a humorous spin on work situations and made things bearable. I am fortunate to have known and worked for him during my 30 years of Government Service.
Rest Peacefully Bill

In the early 70’s I walked into SUNY Albany not knowing a soul, but within a matter of days I met a group of lifelong friends and Bill was at the center of that gang. He was the Grand Marshall of dorm life fun, and we spent so much time talking about sports and music and life in general. I organized a floor hockey intramural team, and although we were terrible and missed the playoffs, Bill was one of our better players and saved us from being totally embarrassed out there.
Over the decades, Bill became more and more philosophical and sent out some amazing thoughtful e-mails talking about life. He was unique and had a fantastic sense of humor.
I will miss him very much.

Bill, your ability to make me laugh will be forever missed. I am blessed to have known you for 47 years, first meeting at our workplace at AIL Deer Park and keeping in touch ever since. You were a great friend and a delightful human with the ability to see humor in just about every situation, especially appreciated at our government jobs!! I still can't quite grasp that you have left but your sense of humor and laughs will remain in my memories. No doubt you've gone straight to heaven, my friend.
RIP Bill. My deepest condolences to the Callahan family.

There was a reason that everyone always congregated around Bill. He always had a funny story to tell and was the life of the party.
On August 15, 1977, Bill and I, two kids just out of college walked through the doors of DCASMA Garden City and started what were to be long and illustrious careers.
August 15 will never be the same.
RIP my friend.
