Obituary
John Joseph "Jack" Braddish Jr., born on December 17, 1938, in Brooklyn, New York, peacefully left this world, leaving behind a rich tapestry of cherished memories. As the eldest of three children born to Mary and John Braddish, Jack grew up in Long Beach where he cultivated enduring connections that profoundly shaped the course of his life.
After Long Beach High School, Jack attended Stanton Military Academy, and then went on to continue his education at Ithaca College. It was there that he not only excelled in football but also met his future
wife, Mary Lou McCullough.
Eventually settling in West Islip, NY, with his wife, affectionately known as Mikki, Jack and Mikki welcomed four children into their lives – Kevin, Keith, Rebecca, and Erin.
Jack began his professional career as a driver education teacher in West Islip, eventually taking on the additional roles of physical education teacher and head football coach. In his first year as head coach he led the team to a league title. He would go on to win four more league titles and a conference title in his 11 years as head coach. In 1980 Jack was appointed Athletic Director of the West Islip School District, a position he held until his retirement in 1996.
.
All would undoubtedly agree that his tenure as the head football coach at West Islip High School provided him the most joy and the ability to shape the lives of his players. As recently as this past fall Jack could be seen on the sidelines at West Islip football games. Beyond the gridiron, he mentored countless players, forging bonds that endured long after his retirement. Jack's legacy, characterized by his commitment to excellence, extended beyond the field, leaving an indelible mark on the West Islip community.
In addition to his immediate family, Jack is survived by his cherished sister, Joanne, his brother, Kevin, and Kevin's wife, Eileen. His memory will forever resonate in the hearts of those privileged to have known and loved him.
Jack leaves behind his four devoted children and their spouses: Kevin and Basia, Keith and Michelle, Becca and Shaun, and Erin and Peter. His legacy also lives on through his beloved 12 grandchildren – Ian, Conor, Kevin, Isabella, Logan, Anna, Taylor, Kyle, Kyra, Luke, Sarah, and Brendan – along with his adored great-grandson, Miles.
Friends and well-wishers are invited to pay their respects at Chapey's Funeral Home on Friday, January 5, from 3 to 5 PM and then again from 7 to 9 PM. A mass celebrating Jack's life will be held on Saturday morning, January 6, at 9 AM at St. Patrick's Cathedral in Bay Shore. Jack's journey may have come to an end, but the impact of his warm spirit and enduring legacy will be cherished by all who knew him.

Dear Coach,
Rare is the day that I don't flashback favorably on my Jack Braddish adventure...drawing strength and deriving great joy from dreaming about our 1969 Championship Season. Even now during those demanding grass drill moments in life you still strongly urge me to "GET UP, MACKEY! GET UP!!
In my youth, you taught me invaluable survival lessons such as how to block, tackle, and parallel park.
And of course how to "CATCH THE DAMN FOOTBALL!
I.e. How to Seize The Moment...on the field and off.
Indeed, you remain a primary mentor for my 17 going on 72 year old self.
So, Coach, in eternal peace rest assured that I - like many young men you led - shall keep playing the game of life with competitive integrity. Knowing that you are ever guiding me and our fellow Lions through the final whistle.
Hail to thee West Islip High and the legacy of Jack Braddish - whose name we hold so dear.
Yours in the spirit of '69,
M. Mackey #85

To Mikki and Family,
Honey & I send our deepest condolences on Jack's passing. I was fortunate, as I recently saw him at the WI Playoff Game around Thanksgiving with Wayne Shierant.
My connection to Jack goes back to when I was 13 and playing on the Udall Jr. High Football Team (4-2). Jack and Ted Nags took over the JV team when I was on it (6-2), and then moved to Varsity my senior year. When Jack came up to Varsity, we had WI Varsity's first winning record 4-4. The next year they went 8-0, and I believe he never had a losing season after that. As I mentioned to Wayne at the playoff game, Jack was the reason for the WI football dynasty that continues today. Jack left the football program in great hands with Wayne Shierant and the others that followed him.
From a personal standpoint I was very fortunate to have him as a coach on three levels, as a Driver Ed teacher, and get into his Football Program. Mikki, you provided support to Jack, and to everyone who ever played for him, and all the players know it - thank you.
Regrettably, I will not be in New York for the service Friday, but hope to speak with you soon.
Ray & Honey Manning

Heartfelt condolences to the Braddish family on the loss of a dearly beloved legend in the West Islip Schools family. Jack made an indelible mark on many students and athletes as an educator, coach, and athletic director. Longtime friendships were established between Jack and so many of his former student athletes and co-workers. He continued the work of his predecessor, Steve Zawyrucha, in building the West Islip sports programs, particularly the football program, to great success that was rivaled among other districts. We are deeply saddened to learn of his loss.
~With love and sincerest sympathy to Jack’s family in their time of sorrow,
Bill and Holly (Manning) Bernhard

Jack (Coach) Braddish : I have known Jack for many years. I met Jack when I was a little league football player, he was then known to me as Coach. Years later I got to know him as a Great Man and close friend. Over the past few years I have spent time with Jack golfing, having lunch or dinner at his favorite spots or just having Spaghetti and Meatballs at Our Home watching football, drinking wine and just enjoying with his many friends and family. Tracy and I will miss Jack. He holds a very special place in our hearts and we were lucky to make and share in so many memories with him. We can only hope and pray that he is with all those he loved that passed before him, playing his best round of golf or Coaching his Lions for life. Rest in Peace Jack,Coach and Friend !! Love and Miss Ya Eddie and Tracy Mackey
