Obituary

Belford, John Lawrence, Jr., age 82 passed on October 30, 2023 after a valiant battle with Alzheimer's Disease. He is survived by his beloved wife Mary Susan and four children John (Carolyn), Timothy (Carmela), Brian (Stafi) and Mary Elizabeth Bolz (Henry). “Pop” was the cherished Grandfather of Anthony, Joseph, Moira, Sarah, Julia, Safi, Brian Jr, Adam James, Andrea, and Henry. Beloved Brother of Paul, Michael, Andrew and Anne (Ryan). John was born in NYC and raised in Bay Shore. He attended St. Patrick’s Elementary School, Chaminade High School, College of the Holy Cross and Columbia Law School. He served in the Navy after college and was Lieutenant Junior Grade on the destroyer USS Davis during the Vietnam War. John was a member of the St. Patrick’s Parish council. John was a past member of the Board of Directors of Good Samaritan Hospital. He was chosen “Man of the Year” by Bay Shore High School Athletic Sponsors. He is the past president of the St. James Chamber of Commerce. John practiced law in St. James for over 30 years. Reposing Sunday 11/5 from 2-5 and 7-9 at Chapey Funeral Home, West Islip NY. Funeral Service Monday 11/6 at 11AM at St. Patrick’s Church, Bay Shore NY.
