Obituary

Ralph J. LaPolla July 17, 1932 – October 28, 2023   With loved ones by his side, Ralph J. LaPolla of Hicksville passed away on October 28, 2023, at the age of 91. He was married for 71 years to the love of his life, Madeline. Cherished father of John (Lourdes), Rich (Gail), Laura (Gene) and the late Tommy. The adoring grandfather of 10 grandchildren, Jessica (Andrew), Robbie (Kristina), Michael (Tina), Rachael, Lisa, Brian (Rose), Kevin, Brendan, Kristen and Kelsey and great-grandfather to Emily, Caiden, Olivia, Alex and Liana. He is survived by his siblings Michael, Mary (Jimmy), Carmella (Carmine) and Louis (Chris). A devoted family man, Ralph was adored by his wife, siblings, children and grandchildren. Ralph found his soulmate early in life and spent 71 years married to his beloved wife Madeline. Together, the two of them shared a love story for the ages and built a family that they loved deeply. The patriarch of his family, Ralph was a provider and took care of everyone in his life, doing anything he could for his children and his family. When Ralph’s father suddenly passed away during his early teenage years, he stepped up to help his mother and served as a father figure to his four younger siblings.

.

He enjoyed spending time with his loved ones and celebrating life’s major milestones with his family. Whether it be Sunday afternoon dinners, visiting a nice restaurant, or stopping at one of his favorite fast-food chains, Ralph loved sharing a meal with his family members and never wanted you to leave hungry.  Ralph was an incredibly loving, caring father. He could always be counted on to be there for you in both the good and tough times. He was also an amazing grandfather who enjoyed sharing in his grandchildren’s interests and activities, regularly attending their sporting events, concerts, and performances.   Ralph proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He returned home and later started his own business, Ralph’s Appliance Repair Inc., where he delivered quality and reliable appliance repairs to many families in the community for nearly 40 years.   He cherished his time at the beach and on the water and always looked forward to his annual timeshare at Gurney’s in Montauk. Ralph developed a lifelong love of music at a young age and was an exceptional saxophone player who played in several bands, including during his time in the Army. In later years, he enjoyed listening to classic records and songs performed by some of the all-time greats, including Glenn Miller, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Tony Bennett. Ralph had an infectious laugh and smile that would light up every room he entered. He will be deeply missed by his family.
