Obituary

Donald Andrew Hoehl May 27, 1942-October 22, 2023 Loving son of the late Irene W. and Herman Hoehl. Devoted and loving husband of the late Patricia Lent Hoehl. Cherished father of Joseph (Alexandria), Michael and the late Donald. Dear grandfather of Joseph, Andrew, Samantha and Kathryn. Devoted brother of Allan (Ann) and nephews Allan, Matthew and James. Loyal, lifelong and devoted friend to his Glendale neighborhood pals and their families and to his special friendship with Hank and Valerie Marchinetti and with Peter and Diane LaSpina and their families from his years at Sigma Phi Delta Fraternity at New England College. A caring friend to scores of others in the NYPD, and to his neighbors in Bethpage New York. The Hoehl name is well-known in the recent history of the New York City Police Department. In fact, four generations have served with distinction, including his father Herman, his brother Allan, his nephew Allan, nephew Allan’s son Al, as well as Don’s three sons. Don retired with the rank of Captain in 1999. Don was a natural athlete, and during his college years he excelled at basketball and later on he gained great pleasure and success on the golf course. These last years have been difficult for Don, but he retained his quick, dry wit and remained optimistic throughout. A fine life, well lived….Don will live on in our hearts.
