Obituary
Terese Dahl of Oakdale, NY passed peacefully at home on October 15th at 86 years of age.
Born and raised in Brooklyn by her parents Sebastian and Angela Bila (nee Viaggio). Terese had a joyful life with her amazing identical twin sister Christine and their brother Vincent growing up in Ridgewood before the family moved to Rockville Centre so the twins could attend St. Agnes High School. The twins had a bond like no other until Christine’s passing 24 years ago. Now they are reunited with their incredible parents, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
After attending Pratt Institute the talented painter married Joseph R Caputo, of Greenpoint, Brooklyn, and raised their 5 children in Brooklyn until relocating to Islip Terrace Long Island in 1963.
Terese had a second chance at love when she met and married Carl R Dahl of Great River and Kismet Fire Island. They were together for 42 adventurous years before his untimely passing in 2021.
Terese worked for OTB, Bayshore, as a cashier and in Islandia as a Union Business Agent for 32 years until her retirement in 2007.
Terese is survived by her 5 devoted children; Christine Buckbinder (Gregg), Terese Caputo, Robin Carpenter (Jeffrey), Joseph R Caputo Jr. (Deborah), Michelle Feeley ( Richard), all of NY, and her brother Vincent Bila of Florida. Also survived by her beloved grandchildren, Judith Dahl, Jennifer Miller (Matt), Nicole Hopiavouri (Grant), Michael Buckbinder, Mackenzie Feeley, Joseph R Caputo III, Jeffrey Carpenter Jr, Nicholas Caputo & Allison Carpenter. She was also blessed with five great-grandchildren who all loved and adored her. Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and numerous caring friends.
Terese’s love for painting never ceased and she continued to paint throughout her life. She was a 3-time cancer survivor which showed her resilient strength and positive attitude. Some of her favorite things included reading, fashion/jewelry, watching the NY Mets, Key West, Kismet Fire Island, her cats, and most of all her family. She was a very loving, kind, generous, and fun person to all she met. She will be greatly missed and remembered forever by all who knew and loved her.

I am so sorry to hear about Terry's passing. I just found out today. I was in Florida for a week. I am so sorry to have missed her service. I would have been there. I have nothing but fond memories of her. Always a smile on her face, always caring, listening and making you feel loved. I'm so sorry Christine we never got the chance to do lunch with her. I would have loved to have seen her. My love to you, Terry and your family always. She certainly has left a beautiful legacy filled with love.

Aunt Terri was a wonderful, kind, creative woman. She was my Confirmation godmother and I took her name Therese, for the middle name I always wanted. I remember one Halloween she helped my sister become Saint Joan of Arc using tin foil to fashion armor and a shield. When I get home I'll send you the picture. May Aunt Terri and all our beloved dead rest in peace together. Love, Judy DeName
