Obituary

Alice L. Russell, 89, passed away very early on September 23, 2023. Born in Brooklyn, on May 17,1934, she graduated from Bay Shore High School. She met and married David S. Russell, Sr. and they lived in Brentwood for 4 years. In 1961 they moved into their new home in West Islip where she resided for over 62 years until her passing. She worked many jobs helping to support her family including the West Islip School system and the IRS, where she retired from in 1999. She volunteered at Good Samaritan Hospital for many years. Her hobby was crocheting and she loved to travel. Although she never learned to swim due to a childhood mishap, she taught all 4 of her children to swim. She made and donated MANY baby delivery blankets and hats throughout the years. Other blankets she made are treasured by her children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gustave and Dorothea Sussfeld as well as her husband David. Surviving her are her 4 siblings, Rita, Marion,Ted and Ken as well as her children and their children: Diana Calderon (Justin/Christopher), David and Valorie Russell (Gene, Dawn, David and Stephen), John and Angela Russell (David,Christina), George and Stephanie Russell (Kaitlyn, Lauren and Sean). She has a total of ELEVEN grandchildren, SEVEN great-grandchildren and ONE great-great grandchild. Reposing at The Fedrick J. Chapey & Sons West Islip Funeral Home, 1225 Montauk Hwy. (1/4 mile west of the Robert Moses Cswy.). Visitation will be Monday from 3:00 pm until 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm until 9:00 pm and Tuesday from 12:00 pm until 1:00 pm. A religious service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 1:00 pm. Interment to follow at Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton, NY.
