Obituary
Malachy (Mal) of Bay Shore passed away on August 22, 2023 at the age of 92. He was a loving and devoted husband to Rosemarie Ward. They had a beautiful marriage of 67 years and shared everything life can offer together. He was a loving and cherished father to Kevin, Maryann, and Michael. Treasured by his daughter-in-law June and son-in- law George. Adored by his grandchildren, Mariel, Raquel, Brittany, Anthony, and Niko.
Mal was born in Manhattan and spent his formative years growing up in the Bronx. After graduating from Cardinal Hayes High School, he dedicated a significant part of his life serving his country proudly as a United States Marine. He joined the Marines, serving on US Aircraft Carrier Midway (CV-41). His time in the Marines helped shape his character and instilled in him values of honor, courage, and resilience. After his time in the Marines, he made Queens his permanent home to raise his family with the love of his life. He eventually left Queens to live a more peaceful lifestyle on the water in West Islip and later to Bay Shore.
Beyond his military service, Malachy worked for New York City at the Department of Sanitation for thirty-three years. He was hired in 1960 as a sanitation worker and rose through the various ranks of the department to retire in 1993 as Deputy Chief. Mal loved to spend time with his family and friends. Mal had a deep passion for traveling with his loved ones. He travelled to all over the world, whether by car, plane, or cruise ship. He enjoyed countless trips with his wife Rosemarie, his children, grandchildren and many extended family and friends. Mal was a big sports fan, always rooting for his favorite teams. He enjoyed watching all Detroit based teams, including the Tigers, Lions and Redwings. He was also a big fan of Notre Dame Fighting Irish Football.
Mal had a heart of gold and would do anything for his family. His perseverance, humor, and love will live on in our hearts forever.
