Obituary
Maryann Giordano Thompson of Massapequa Park, grew up in Plainedge, Long Island. She graduated Plainedge High School Class of 1972. Passed peacefully at home with her family around her on Saturday May 20th.
Maryann was predeceased by her father Gasper Giordano, mother Celeste Giordano and sister Celeste. Maryann is survived by her husband Arthur Thompson, daughters Kimberly McMackin and Cynthia Kaiser, Daughter in Law Jennifer McMackin and Son in Law George Kaiser. Maryann is beloved Nona to four Grandchildren Meghan, Sean and Liam McMackin and Hannah Kaiser.
Maryann was an Administrative Assistant at Equitable Life Assurance Company which she gave up in 1982 to devote herself to becoming a full time Mom which she was excellent at. Maryann spent time helping at PAL, CYO, Brownies, PTA President at Lockhart School and later Massapequa High Volleyball and Lacrosse Booster Clubs. Her other interests included traveling and taking care of her husband. She acted as caretaker to her Dad, Mom and sister all of whom suffered catastrophic illnesses.
In 2006 Maryann suffered her first breast cancer event. It would return 2017 shortly after she had taken care of her sister Celeste who had passed from breast cancer on St Patrick’s Day. For the next five years Maryann faced one challenge after another always with courage, tenacity and humor. Between the threat of Covid and her illness her only complaint was she could not spend more time with her family. Early 2022 during a period where it looked like the disease was in remission we planned a family trip to Turks and Caicos. Maryann began to show signs of illness early February. She insisted the trip go on. She had a wonderful time with everyone despite her deteriorating condition. The day after returning home on March 2 she returned to Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital. Due to the efforts of her team of doctors led by Dr Elizabeth Comen she began to improve and she came home April. 7th.
.
However, the improvement was short lived. She returned to the hospital on April 25th. Despite the efforts of the Doctors her condition was terminal and she bravely faced at home hospice care, passing peacefully on May 20th with her family around her. During the time of her illness she always expressed joy at going on her family trip.
I am extremely proud of our daughters Kimberly and Cynthia who took care of their Mom and Dad during the hospice care. We were never alone over that almost three weeks of care.
Our family thanks all the Doctors and Nurses of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and the Nurses and staff of Northwell Hospice Network.

We will always remember the way Maryann laughed at Art's jokes and the pride in her face when she spoke of her daughters and grandchildren. Goodbye dear old friend and walking buddy. You will be missed.
