Obituary
Rosalie Gigante age 71, of Islip, passed away on January 28, 2023, after her battle with breast cancer. Rosalie was born May 14, 1951 in Manhattan, NY to parents Peter and Sally Gigante. After completing grade school in 1969, she immediately started work with Verizon, then known as Bell Atlantic. She worked there from 1969 until her retirement in October of 2007. On the side during her Verizon career, she also worked at a small café in Little Italy in the late 80s/ early 90s. She met many famous people while serving in the café and it was always a fond memory of hers. She also attended the Ohashi school of medicine where she practiced many healing techniques. She graduated from there in 2006 and she continued participating and assisting in classes for many years after. She used her many gifts to help and heal so many people through reiki, shiatzu massage and all she learned at the Ohashi School. She was also an accomplished and talented artist. She was the person that was always there to lend an ear or advice, always there for all the important moments in life and always with a smile. No dinner celebration would be complete without her signature dishes of Greek spinach pie, Eggplant parmesan or Tabouleh. She loved to attend Broadway shows and concerts, loved to travel and experience new things and lean about different cultures. She was the best storyteller.
She is survived by her partner Ralph Buono and family ; Ronnie Gigante, Anna Maria Gigante, Briana Wrightson, Brendon Wrightson, Ronnie Gigante Jr, Pandora Gigante, Mary Stark, Melissa Montgomery, Ryan Montgomery , Cassie Montgomery and Ryan John Montgomery. Services to be held at The Fredrick J. Chapey & Sons Funeral Home, 1225 Montauk Hwy., West Islip on Thursday, February 2nd from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm with final service at Pinelawn Memorial Park Friday, February 3rd at 2:00 pm.

Rosalie was my study pal at the Ohashi Institute, starting and graduating from the program together. She later became an Instructor and she has been loved by students and colleagues alike. Rosalie always had an encouraging and supporting word for everyone, always ready to help others. She touched many people in her life with her kindness and grace. I will miss her.
Rest in Peace, dear Rosalie.

I was saddened to hear Rosalie passed away. Rosalie and I go back many years, early 70's. She was part of our family and will always be, my family loved her. Rosalie took me all over Brooklyn when I was a child, movies, malls and restaurants, she was the kindest person I've ever met, she was also very funny at times, we'd tell stories for hours and just sit and laugh. It amazed me how she never forgot my birthday; she'd always call me or leave a voice message. She was a part of my life for a very long time, you will be missed Ro, I love you, you'll always be in my heart forever.

From Master Ohashi and the Ohashi Institute --Rosalie came to the Ohashi Institute after she was introduced by her Japanese sumie (calligraphy) teacher, which she had studied for a long time. She also studied with us as diligently, taking 6 levels of our Ohashiatsu classes. Because of her dedication I invited Rosalie to become an intern and instructor. She took on those roles with equal dedication. She would come to my class two hours early to tidy the classroom, greet students and make them feel comfortable. Even when correcting their technique she was gentle and thoughtful. She helped me in many ways during the course -- she was my best ever assistant. She was also very kind to my wife Bonnie and my son Kazuhiro, who also shared many courses and special occasions with Rosalie. It's with great sadness that we learned of her passing and we will miss her dearly.
