Obituary
John Francis Deutsch passed away surrounded by his wife and children on Friday, Jan. 20, 2023.
He succumbed after a fight with cancer at the age of 62.
John was a devoted family man and dedicated community volunteer, first in Massapequa and for many decades in East Islip. His many years of service to the East Islip Soccer Club culminated in his induction in the Long Island Junior Soccer League Hall of Fame in 2017.
John made friends wherever he went. In a restaurant, he would introduce himself and his party to the waiter, waitress or bartender, bringing smiles to many in establishments around Long Island.
Through the years John and his wife Maureen were the geographical center of their family’s universe. And that family wasn’t limited by bloodlines. Everybody was welcome in their home.
Their parties were legendary from St. Paddy’s, Easter, Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, birthdays, christenings, first communions, graduations and engagements, just to name a few.
He organized trips to Yankees Opening Days for nearly 20 straight years.
In addition to his wife of 43 years, Maureen, John is survived by his sons Michael (Summer), Daniel (Corey), Robert (Devin), and daughter Kelly (Brian). He was blessed with 10 grandchildren: Brody, Carter, Tyler, Gavin, Elisabeth, Brendan, Wesley, Layla, Dylan and Charley.
Survivors also include brothers Edward, James and Joseph and sister Catherine.
He was beloved by his stepmother Joanie, brothers- and sister-in-laws, cousins and friends; some new and others dating back to his youth.
He was predeceased by his father Francis and mother Miriam.
John lived by these words from Maya Angelou:
“People will forget what you said. People will forget what you did. People will never forget how you made them feel.”

I am saddened to learn of John's passing. We were friends in Junior (McKenna) and Senior High School (Berner).
He was someone who contributed to my school experience in many positive ways and he will not be forgotten.
While the years may have passed, the sadness of losing a classmate is overwhelming as we are who we are today through each of them from then. It is as if a piece of us has died, too.
I want his family to know what he wrote in my yearbook may years ago, "Remember the times we had...". I surely will my friend.
Rest in Peace

Our sincere sympathies to Maureen, Michael, Danny, Kelly, Bobby and their respective spouses on the untimely and sad passing of their Husband and Father. John was married to my niece Maureen who is the mainstay of the Eltman Family on Long Island. He was one of the most charismatic men I have ever met, gregarious, outgoing , generous to a fault. He was extremely proud of his family and was not shy in the telling. He recognised the significance of his Irish family and regularly visited with Maureen and his family to see us here in Ireland. He was great company and we will miss his good humour and kindheartedness. We can only imagine how great a loss to Maureen and the family. We have an Irish saying " Leaba i measc na Naoimh go raibh aige" which means "May he have a bed among the Saints" . So long old friend,
Joe and Mary McNamara and family and all the wider McNamara family
