Obituary
On January 15, 2023, Fred Dorka, 81 went home to be with the Lord.
He was born in the town of Allenstein, East Prussia, then Germany, now Poland.
His family immigrated to the United States in 1952, and settled in Jackson Heights. He graduated from Brooklyn Tech High School and graduated from New York City Community College. Fred worked as a helicopter technician and radioman at New York Airways in LaGuardia Airport and retired in 2008 as a technician with Brinkmann Instruments in Westbury after 37 years at the job. He was avid stamp and coin collector, he also enjoyed photography and fixing anything that may or may not have been broken.
He was a man of great faith and through God’s blessing, and was able to share and help meet the needs of friends and complete strangers. He met his wife in German Immanuel Baptist Church in Woodside, attended Wantagh Baptist Church after moving with his wife and children to Hicksville, and was an active member of Living Faith Church in Farmingdale. He enjoyed attending services and served as a deacon, usher, greeter, and was eager to help out wherever there was a need.
Fred is survived by his beloved wife Brigitte (Korinski) Dorka of 59 years, his children Andrew Dorka and Marion (Dorka) Cummins and her husband Maurice, and grandchildren Ellyn Cummins, Sean Cummins and Megan Cummins, Joshua Dorka and Alyssa (Dorka) Goldensohn and husband Robert and great-grandchild Robin; and through his brother Heinz Dorka and wife Ruth was also the uncle & great uncle of many more children.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Kurt and Edith Dorka, his sister Giesla, and daughter-in-law Patricia (Fox) Dorka.
Always smiling and seeing the bright side of everything and full of humor, even to the very end, he will be greatly missed by his many friends and family.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Missions Ministry of Living Faith Church in Farmingdale.

My heart breaks for Bridgette and the entire Dorka family. I thank God for blessing me with the opportunity to know Fred and call him brother. I was a part of a mens group that met every Saturday for the last 5 years and Fred was a part of that group. No one was more kind, considerate, loving, humble and faithful than Fred. Fred had the unique ability to see only the good in every person and situation. One of a kind. I will miss him while I am still here but look forward to seeing him once again in the Kingdom of God. Thank you Lord for blessing us all by placing Fred in our lives.
