Obituary
Salvatore Palumbo, 89 of Plainedge, NY, passed away suddenly on September 25, 2022 at Northshore LIJ Hospital.
Salvatore was born to Domenico and Antonietta Palumbo on June 8, 1933. He served proudly in the Italian Army for two years before he married the love of his life, Antonietta, in 1958 in their home country of Italy.
In Italy, Salvatore worked as a bus driver, where passengers purposefully rode the bus just so that they would be able to talk to him.
In 1963, Salvatore and his wife made the decision to move to America with their son, Domenico. Once in America, Salvatore got a job in a pizzeria working in the kitchen. Deciding that he didn’t love that job, he went back to what his father instilled in him: that every man that does not go to school should learn a trade. Not only did he take his father’s advice but he followed in his father’s footsteps.
Salvatore went onto become a barber. He did so while also attending night school to learn the English language. His hard work paid off, where he later became the owner of his own business and a U.S. citizen.
In the barbershop he became a generational barber taking care of everyone in every family. The customers loved and adored “Sal The Barber”. Sal loved his customers as if they were his family. They loved him for his kindness and for being a genuine person who would often listen to their stories and offer advice to help solve everyday problems.
At home he brought laughter and joy with his musical spirit where he thought he was a singer and would loudly entertain everyone at family gatherings with his accordion playing. His (bad) jokes also solicited both laughter and groans.
.
Salvatore predeceased by his wife Antonietta Palumbo, leaves behind his son Domenico (Cheryl), daughters Maria, Angela, Nancy (Orlando) and Lina (Sean); his seven grandchildren Salvatore, Domenico, Alyssa, Thomas, Matteo, Bella and Oliva.
The world was a better and brighter place with Salvatore in it.
Ti Amo, Papa/Nonno
