Obituary
Pettit, Dr. Malcolm Wallace, “Jim” (87), of Islip, NY, on Sept. 22, 2022. Jim was born in Brooklyn NY in 1934 and served honorably in the Navy from 1953-1957. He married his wife Rita in 1954, completed his naval service, and moved the family to Texas to attend TCU. After 2 years in Texas, he transferred to Rutgers University to complete his pre-med undergraduate degree. He and his family moved back to NY where he attended Albany Medical College and graduated in 1964, eventually landing back on Long Island beginning his 33 year family medical practice at Good Samaritan Hospital. He loved caring for his patients and their families as much as they loved him. Jim’s greatest love was his family, always surrounding himself with his kids and grandkids. He was a loving and loyal son, husband, father, grandfather and friend to so many. His passions included fishing, boating, clamming, golfing, gardening, an annual casino trip, and a deep love for the ocean and the beach. After retirement, he enjoyed years of exploring the shores of Long Island, traveling to visit his kids and grandkids, and even quilting and rock painting!
