Obituary
Frances Manganiello, age 99, daughter of Antonio and Filomena Sorrentino and wife of the late Philip Manganiello, passed away in Austin, TX on August 8, 2022. Frances was born in Brooklyn, NY on June 23, 1923, where she lived for 66 years before eventually settling in Austin,Texas.
She is survived by her children: son Gary (Virginia), daughter Rae Ann, daughter Phyllis, son Dennis (Judy), and son Anthony (Sue). Frances is also survived by her 12 grandchildren: Frank (Carrie), David, Ann, Daniel, Gary, Christopher (Valerie), Lisa (Joel), Buddy (Kharla), Gina (Chad), Matthew, Geneva and Michelle. Frances also had 8 great grandchildren: Kate, Luke, Keirra, Lily, Ryan, Jade, Ava, Zac and Robert.
Frances was known for her love and devotion to her family. Her father died during the Great Depression. As her mother, along with her 7 siblings, worked to feed the family, she stayed home as caretaker. Six days after Pearl Harbor, Frances married Phil and then raised her first child, Gary, alone for 2 years as Phil was fighting in the Pacific theater. Frances, a devout Roman Catholic, devoted her entire life to helping others in the Williamsburg neighborhood as well as assisting an orphanage in her mother’s hometown in Italy.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Children of St Jude’s Charity in honor of Frances.
