ROSE SILECCHIA December 14, 1924 - August 6, 2022 Rose was born in Brooklyn, New York on December 14, 1924. She was raised in East Flatbush by her parents, Joseph and Theresa Somma, who had immigrated from Italy a few years earlier. Rose learned the English language when she was enrolled in public school. She graduated from Tilden High School in 1944 and worked briefly as a bookkeeper before marrying the man of her dreams in 1945, the late Angelo Silecchia. Rose was blessed with her first son in 1946 and remained a dedicated mother and housewife thereafter. In 1951 she was blessed with her second son Joseph. She was a beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend to all. In 1948, Rose and her husband Angelo moved to Canarsie, Brooklyn where they raised their two boys, Thomas and Joseph. When her children were grown and left the nest, Rose and Angelo moved to East Islip where she spent the rest of her life. Rose will forever be remembered as a truly selfless person who put everyone before herself. She always cared for the needy, either helping them herself, or giving to dozens of charitable organizations. No one’s birthday, anniversary or any memorable occasion ever passed without receiving a card or telephone acknowledgment from Rose. Rose’s upbeat attitude always made people feel better as she was truly a Pollyanna. Rose loved cooking and baking and loved watching her family enjoy the tasty fruits of her labor. In her spare time she would enjoy sewing, knitting, crocheting and gardening. She is survived by her son Thomas Silecchia and wife Fran of Sayville, New York, son Joseph of Port Saint Lucie, Florida, sister Pauline Tartaglia and husband Frank of Farmingville, New York, grandchildren, Jennifer Hackett and husband Jim, Matthew and wife Karen, Jeannie Smouse and husband Cody , and great grandchildren Elizabeth, Declan, Ava, Bennett, Quinn, Olivia and Taylor.
