Obituary
ROSE SILECCHIA
December 14, 1924 - August 6, 2022
Rose was born in Brooklyn, New York on December 14, 1924. She was raised in East Flatbush by her parents, Joseph and Theresa Somma, who had immigrated from Italy a few years earlier. Rose learned the English language when she was enrolled in public school. She graduated from Tilden High School in 1944 and worked briefly as a bookkeeper before marrying the man of her dreams in 1945, the late Angelo Silecchia. Rose was blessed with her first son in 1946 and remained a dedicated mother and housewife thereafter. In 1951 she was blessed with her second son Joseph. She was a beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend to all.
In 1948, Rose and her husband Angelo moved to Canarsie, Brooklyn where they raised their two boys, Thomas and Joseph. When her children were grown and left the nest, Rose and Angelo moved to East Islip where she spent the rest of her life.
Rose will forever be remembered as a truly selfless person who put everyone before herself. She always cared for the needy, either helping them herself, or giving to dozens of charitable organizations. No one’s birthday, anniversary or any memorable occasion ever passed without receiving a card or telephone acknowledgment from Rose. Rose’s upbeat attitude always made people feel better as she was truly a Pollyanna.
Rose loved cooking and baking and loved watching her family enjoy the tasty fruits of her labor. In her spare time she would enjoy sewing, knitting, crocheting and gardening.
She is survived by her son Thomas Silecchia and wife Fran of Sayville, New York, son Joseph of Port Saint Lucie, Florida, sister Pauline Tartaglia and husband Frank of Farmingville, New York, grandchildren, Jennifer Hackett and husband Jim, Matthew and wife Karen, Jeannie Smouse and husband Cody , and great grandchildren Elizabeth, Declan, Ava, Bennett, Quinn, Olivia and Taylor.

a woman never to be forgotten....
So there are people in life you meet that you remember all your life whether you see them or not. Rose Silecchia was one of those people for me. Rose was a beautiful woman both inside and outside. The kindest and most wonderful person. we met when i was a baby. My mom and her were best friends to the day my Mom left this earth. Below the picture with my Mom was taken by Rose on the day of my First Communion in 1964 outside their beautiful home across from the projects at 106-09 Flatlands Avenue. Rose and her husband Angelo raised two boys and they were both kind and loving people. Rose has now joined Angelo in heaven. Rose lived a good life of 97 years. Last night as I passed Hempstead Park I remembered the picnics we went on with the Polisieno's as those were special days. My sister Michele always kept in touch with Rose and she always asked about all of us. One thing about Rose is she always had a smile and always worried about others first. When my brother was in Vietnam and got R&R for two weeks my Mom and Dad went to visit him in Hawaii. Who took care of my sister Michele and me - Rose and Angelo. They both treated us like their children. Rose was a religious woman and as I grew up and went to Holy Family School I would see her going to mass with her mother Mrs Somma pretty much every day. Last night as Michele and I said goodbye I relived all those memories and more. In life we are blessed to meet certain people and Rose was one of them for me. I thank her for her love of all and she will always be loved and remembered. Rose your back with your husband and I know that makes you happy as your love for him was something special. I will always love and remember you as that never goes away. Ron Armellino
