Withers, Harold J., Jr. of West Babylon, LI on July 25, 2022. Beloved husband of Christina Withers. Dear step father of James david Cooke, Jacqueline Marie Cooke and Jonathan Christopher Cooke. Loving brother of Thomas (Marina) Withers and Kenneth (Patricia) Withers. Also beloved by many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces & grand-nephews. Harold was a 65+ years resident of North Babylon. His many accomplishments and affiliations include; a Babylon Town Councilman (10 years), Babylon Town Republican Party Chair, Suffolk County Republican Party Chair, Suffolk County Commissioner of Board of Elections, Suffolk County Commissioner of Consumer Affairs, Suffolk County Deputy Director of Planning. He was an Adjunct Professor of Political Science at SUNY Stony Brook, covering public policy and Federalism. Had a PhD in Political Science Fordham University. He loved and studied history – he had extensive book collection of such. Harold was an avid fan of thoroughbred horse racing, golfing, baseball (NY Yankees), football (NY Giants), and basketball (NY Knicks) and proudly served in US Army. Reposing at The Fredrick J. Chapey & Sons West Islip Funeral Home, 1225 Montauk Hwy. (1/4 mile west of the Robert Moses Cswy.). Celebration of the Liturgy of Christian Burial Friday 10:15 AM at Ss. Cyril & Methodius R.C.
