Andy's Story
Andy had been struggling with a severely debilitating disease called MSA (Multiple System Atrophy) since as early as 2016. In the long process to this final diagnosis, Andy was devastated as was his immediate family. Unfortunately, he chose to deal with this health crisis on his own which meant he turned away from the love and support he undoubtedly would have received from all of his friends and extended family. As his wife and children, we needed to respect his wishes. Please forgive Andy. Andy loved you all so very much but this is how he felt he needed to manage this major challenge.
I, along with Jessica, Brianna, Drew and Lauren all want to thank you for coming and hope you understand that at this great time of loss we will be unable to recount in detail the road that led us here today. Through our grieving process, there will come a time when we will be able to more fully inform you of Andy’s struggle. For now, this is what we need to do as a family on our journey to healing. We sincerely hope you understand.
With love and appreciation -- Debbie
MSA
Multiple System Atrophy (MSA) is a rare, degenerative neurological disorder affecting your body's involuntary functions, including blood pressure, breathing and motor control. MSA shares many Parkinson's disease-like symptoms, such as slow movement, rigid muscles and poor balance. There is no cure. The condition progresses gradually and eventually leads to death.

I had the privilege of knowing Andy for a very short time about three months back In 1989. I was a Transit roll over to the NYPD, where I did a short training stint with Andy at the 73 precinct. Andy was funny and had a terrific personality. I ran into Andy, I guess it was twenty plus years later at Islip high school. We immediately connected and laughed about the short time we spent together. My wife, a former employee at Islip high school texted me today on July 12 telling me the news. I was so taken back, I’m sorry I wasn’t there to pay my respects. My thoughts and prayers go out to you. My wife also knew Andy to be a wonderful person. Sincerely Vinny Pellizzi.

Years have passed since we worked together and became extended family. The 88 Precinct was our home from
Away from Home. Although we all continue on our own paths in life, we are always family.you were a great person, friend, and Police Officer. We worked and played hard while we were together. We had a great run and wonderful memories lasting forever. I am blessed to have crossed paths and go lt to call you a friend and brother. You have left behind a beautiful legacy that will live forever . God needed a good cop in heaven and we don’t know why now, but there is never enough time with loved ones . Your memories will always bring a smile to my face.God bless you and may you be at peace. You are always with us .

I knew Andy as a parent of Andrew and Jessica, as well as a security guard at Islip High School. I enjoyed our conversations when he would stop and talk while I was on hall duty; he was so proud of his kids. He was a kind and gentle soul and will be missed by all whose lives he touched. RIP Andy ❤

I am so sorry for your lost. Andrew was one of the best. His time here was to short. He left us with so many good memories to hold on to. Rest in Peace Andy. You're gone but never will be forgotten. My heart is broken. But I know you're at peace now and out of pain. I know mommy was there with the rest of the family to welcome you. I love you.
