Rosemary K. Anari was born in Brooklyn NY on April 19, 1928 to Pasquale and Kathryn Tricarico. She was the youngest of four children and the only daughter with four brothers her senior. In the mid to late 1940's, she met the love of her life, Frank Anari at a local dance hall. Both she and my dad enjoyed dancing and throughout the years at any wedding or party with music, Frank and Rosemary were known to ballroom dance across the dance floor with an audience in awe of their dance style. During the years of their courtship, both my parents fulfilled their patriotic duties by working for the Department of Defense in the Brooklyn Navy yard, mom most notably in the secretary pool. Married on February 20, 1949 my parents had almost 60 years together before my father passed away. Together my parents raised a family and as a mother to two daughters, Susan and Rosemary, it was a role that mom cherished.
As the years past, my mother enjoyed her role as a wife, mother and homemaker. She enjoyed many activities such as sewing, reading, and became a troop leader of the local girl scout unit. She was at her best socializing with family and friends. In the 1960s, she became an active member in the Republican party and was known to campaign for her candidate and even worked for the Board of Elections. Mom was one of the first mothers I knew who drove a car in our neighborhood. She woke up early each day to drive Dad to work so that she could run errands and go places with her girls. After many years at home, mom decided to go back to work and became a "Kelly Girl". Within a few years she worked on Wall Street as a secretary and quickly worked her way up to the secretary to the Vice President, office manager and eventually she earned her license as a Registered Representative where she worked selling stocks and options. During this time, Mom worked for two brokerage houses the last being Shearson Lehman Brothers. She retired at 65 after enjoying a successful career. However, her retirement was short lived because she felt she still wanted to be challenged. Within six months of her retirement, mom returned to work as a library page and later was promoted to library clerk with the Plainedge Public Library. Finally, at the age of 89 and with 25 years of service, mom finally retired.
My mother was the best role model for her family. Throughout life's ups and downs she always remained positive and upbeat. She was a hard worker and instilled the same values in her children and grandchildren she was known for her sweetness and generosity, but also for her brutal honesty. One always knew where you stood with her. My mother was the last of her generation and leaves behind two daughters, four grandchildren and seven (almost eight) great grandchildren. She is beloved by her family which includes many neices and nephees many of which also called her godmother. She leaves behind a legacy that the next generations will hope to lve up to. The most valuable lesson she taught us was the family is everything.
Thank you mom for making me the person I am today. I love you.
