Having taken several classes with Dr. Harmond at St. John's in the 1980s, what I remember most was his humanity. Yes, he was an authority on the Progressive Era and Long Island history, and later also environmentalism and the Roosevelts, but he was also a very nice guy. It's too bad that, as far as I know, he never completed his book on Robert Roosevelt - I'm sure it would have been great.
