Obituary

Joseph John Feminella, twenty three years old, from West Islip, passed away on May 29th, 2022 peacefully and surrounded by his friends and family. Joe gained his angel's wings after a courageous battle with MDS (Myelodysplastic syndromes), a rare blood cancer. He left behind his parents, Ann and John, his sisters, Sarah and Shannon, as well as his grandparents, Frances and John. Additionally, Joe was loved by many friends, SBU teammates, and his vast extended family, consisting of aunts, uncles, and cousins. Joe had a large variety of hobbies like card collecting, playing lotto, gaming, day-trading, cheering on the Colts, and door-dashing without including his family members. Many nights, Joe would invite his friends over to watch the newest anime, sit by the firepit, or play Super Smash Bros. When not hanging with friends, Joe worked part-time for a local collectible store and was able to pursue his love for Yugioh, Magic the Gathering, and rookie football cards.

.

Joe was a co-captain for the Stony Brook Football Team and was coined as their “good luck charm” throughout his time with the team. During his time at Stony Brook, they won four championships and had an incredibly successful program. Joe and his dad were able to travel with the team across the country for 13 seasons visiting places such as Texas, Montana, Utah, and North Dakota (to name a few). When not on the field, Joe worked behind the scenes in the equipment room, going by the alias “Joey Loops”. There are not enough words in the dictionary to describe Joe, but a few that come to mind would be optimistic, strong, witty, fun-loving, and kind-hearted. Throughout his life, he lived in the moment and never let his diagnosis define or scare him. Joe’s presence had lasting impacts on everyone he met, and we feel fortunate enough to have received twenty three years with him. His services are scheduled for the following: June 2nd from 7:00 PM-9:00 PM at Chapey’s Funeral Home in West Islip, NY June 3rd from 4:00 PM-8:00 PM at Chapey’s Funeral Home in West Islip, NY June 4th at 10:30 AM at Saint Joseph’s Church in Babylon, NY On Saturday we are holding a celebration of life at Lily Flanagan’s in Babylon, NY after the funeral mass.
