Obituary

Pritchard, Joseph, a longtime resident of West Islip, husband of the late Maddy Oberfell, passed away on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, just before his 91st birthday. Joe was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. In 1946, he began study at the Vincentian Minor Seminary of Saint Joseph, in Princeton, New Jersey, and Saint Vincent's Novitiate in Philadelphia, where he met his long-time special friend, Father Alfred Pehrrson. When Joe returned to New York, he joined the Marine Reserves, and attended Saint John's University. Joe and Maddy were married in 1955. After serving in the Marines, Joe and Maddy decided to settle on Long Island, where he became a "State Farm Insurance Agent." They moved to West Islip, and raised their two children, Maureen and Stephen. Joe and Maddy were active at Saint Joseph's Catholic Church, in Babylon. When Joe joined the choir, he became a "leader of song," and volunteered on many special occasions. He also became an active member of the "Knights of Columbus," and the "American Legion." Joe never slowed down after retiring. Instead, he became more active with volunteer work on special projects including: Distributing "Ticket to Heaven" Packets. Fundraising for "The Life Center of Long Island." Writing a book about Maddy: "She Ate Her Spinach.'' Singing at masses for the "Consolation Nursing Home." Singing at "Maria Regina Nursing Home." Helping Father Alfred Pehhrson (an incredible cartoonist) to promote and publish his artwork & books for the benefit of the "Vincentian Order," and several other Catholic charitable organizations.

.

He was predeceased by: his wife Maddy, his parents Josephine Howard and Thomas Pritchard, his brother Thomas Pritchard, his sister Theresa Pritchard Watta, his granddaughter Kaitlin Pritchard, and his son-in-law Kevin Smith.
