Obituary
We are coming to you with heavy hearts with the loss of Michael McCartney aka Barney. He was a beloved husband, son, brother, friend and music influence to many.
Michael was happily married to Jacqueline McCartney. When Barney was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer, his first want and desire was to marry the love of his life. They have been together for many years but he decided he must marry her before his time has expired. Despite COVID restrictions, they were motivated to get married with both sides of their family present to celebrate on June 12, 2021.
Barney loved to play music and was always known as the drummer with Barney Rubble on the front of the bass drum Not only did he play himself, he has taught many generations of children up until they were young adults. Mike would preform at fairs and events with his band of students. He truly impacted and inspired so many with people with his music
Michael McCartney fought the hard fight for 2 years and unfortunately heaven gained a beautiful angel on January 10, 2022. He will be missed but never forgotten.

I was heartbroken to hear the news that Mike McCartney passed away. Mike was my music teacher when I was just starting to play bass. He was more than just a teacher, he was a role model, a friend, and just the happiest guy around. For those who don't know, Mike would gather his students together and have them play together in a band. While the shows were never sold put crowds at MSG in reality, you would never be able to tell that by looking at Mike. Every chance he had to say it he would utter his famous catchphrase "I LOVE THIS JOB" while wearing an outfit that was sure to put a smile on everyone's face. He was just happy to play music and he loved playing alongside his students even more. While many people are saying RIP Mike, ik that is not the case. Mike never took a rest. He was always running around either teaching or playing in whatever weather and cancer or not. For me its not RIP, it's rock on brother ill miss you.

The Gallo Family is heartbroken. We are thankful and blessed to have had you as part of our lives. The world is a better place because of you. The lessons you taught your students went far beyond teacher/student. You taught them more than music alone. You encouraged their self esteem, taught dedication, teamwork, kindness, positivity, and respect all while having fun just to name a few. You also taught them old guys are still cool!
I will miss our chats at the curb in between lessons. Most of all I will miss hearing...
"Welcome to the Misspending Youth traveling extravaganza! I am Mike Mc Cartney.....AND I LOVE THIS JOB!
Thank you!
Rest in piece my friend.
