Obituary
Sandy Agoglia (Belback) of Islip Terrace, NY passed away peacefully on December 14th at the age of 72.
Sandy is survived by her loving and dedicated husband, Michael; her daughters Lori Shyman (Eric) of Bohemia, NY and Gina Hale (Ryan) of North Andover, MA; her grandsons Nathan and Lucas Shyman; as well as her sisters (Steffy and Suzy), nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents John and Elise Belback.
Sandy was born near Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. When she was young, she moved with her parents and sisters to North Babylon, NY. After high school she went to SUNY Albany where she met the love of her life, Michael. After graduating and moving back to Long Island, they married at Ss. Cyril and Methodius Church in North Babylon and settled in Islip Terrace. They had a dog named Rocky and enjoyed going out on their boat with friends.
Sandy went on to earn her Master’s degree and became a business teacher where she taught typing and shorthand among other things. She was adored by her students. When she had her daughters, she stayed home to raise them. She would do anything for her girls. She was a devout Catholic and volunteered in various ministries at St. Mary’s church in East Islip for decades.
Sandy was also an amazing baker and cook. Her cakes were always so beautiful that it was difficult to want to cut through them! She always made Sunday dinners for her family and all were welcome at her table. She loved to crochet and was also talented with a needle and thread, creating all her daughter’s Halloween costumes from scratch. She loved to garden and had a green thumb.
Sandy may have been soft spoken, but she had a kind word for everyone. Her motto was “It’s nice to be nice.” If we all live a little bit like Sandy, the world would be a much better place.

Every Christmas my family looked forward to the beautiful tray of delicious cookies that Sandy spent weeks preparing.
She was a fantastic baker! Heaven certainly gained a kind and gentle Angel. May you find peace now.
Love,
Suzanne and Don
