One story I remember about Jimmy was a time when I was about 19 years old and he and Mary had come down to visit my father in Virginia. I had just finished my shift doing internet tech support at a call center and when I came into my father's house, everyone was smiling. People always seemed to be that way around Jimmy, and I believe a couple of beers helped as well.
I relayed a story about a particularly stupid and unreasonable request from someone who had called me up that day. The caller said he wanted his name taken down with everyone else who was complaining about some issue. I didn't know what to do because the caller was the only one complaining and we had no such list, so I wrote the callers name down on a piece of paper, per his request, which I subsequently threw into the trash at the end of my shift. As I told this story to the room, Jimmy started chuckling. He held his hands up as if holding a pad of paper and showing to the room. "Here's the list! One name!" he joked, and everyone started laughing.
It's not that the story is particularly interesting, but it was how he said it, with a big grin, that just made me feel like he saw the ridiculousness in the situation, and my job. The room laughed and my attitude changed from one of weariness to laughter. I suspect I'm the only one who remembers that moment, but Jimmy had shifted my attitude with a smile and a simple joke, and offered an indirect reminder not to take things too seriously. More than 20 years later, it's not something I've ever forgotten.

I treasure the few conversations i had with Jim. I am sorry I am unable to be with the family during their bereavement. Go proudly Jim. Your loving sons are a tribute to your magnificence.

Jim was a very special man. It's been many years since I last saw him, but I will always remember him as a man who lived life with joy and shared that joy with all who knew and loved him. He saw the good in everyone and had a way of making you feel special. We are all better for having known him and he will be greatly missed. Rest In Peace Jim.

We've all lost a great guy, a kind spirit, a man with an open heart and a perpetual smile. Jimmy was a terrific husband, father, teacher, and a friend to all. In his own special way, he had the ability to bring out the best in each of us.
Jimmy, we will miss you... you were one of a kind.

Jim will indeed be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was kind and loving and the most non-judgmental person I've ever known. He was interested in conversing with everyone and valued everyone. And his sense of humor... he was seriously funny.
Rest in peace Jim. We love you.

Jimmy will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He always had a smile and a kind word for anyone. He would go out of his way to help. For example, 30 years ago I needed a dress for my father's funeral. (I had been staying at my mom's house with only regular clothes.) My cousin Mary was working with my brother on the contact list. My husband was bringing himself and our kids from Connecticut where we lived. Jimmy would have loaned a car, but frankly I was a mess & shouldn't have been driving. Plus, I had no clue where to go. Jimmy's solution was to take me to a store where I could get a black dress. He was calm and reassuring, and acted like it was no big deal. It was to me, and is something I've never forgotten. He will be greatly missed by our family.

Jimmy was a special man and one of a kind. He was a loving husband and a good father, generous with his time and his love, not only with his family but also complete strangers who needed his help. His good spirits and kindness will not be forgotten by any who knew him. The world is poorer with his passing.
