Obituary
Patricia “Patty” Cefalu
Patricia Cefalu departed her loving family on July 7th 2021. She was born on March 7th 1954 in Bronx, NY. She grew up in Franklin Square, NY as one of six children to John B McGetrick and Patricia McGetrick.
Patricia Cefalu devoted her life to her children. She was mother to Shawn, Kieran, Patrick, Kelly, Brendan and Paul. She raised her children with love in East Islip, NY with her husband John Cefalu.
Patricia was a selfless person who, even in her darkest hours, always put others before herself. She was an animal lover who cherished all of her dogs. Patricia was also a tough and determined woman. After receiving a double lung transplant on September 14 2005, her resilience and perseverance gave her extra time on this earth. It allowed her to cherish so many additional celebrations of life and take advantage of the little things, like sleeping with a dog at her feet. Patricia may not be present with us now but her fighting spirit will always live on through her children and grandchildren.
Patricia is predeceased by her brother John “Jack” McGetrick and her parents.
Aside from her children, grandchildren, and her beloved dogs, she is survived by her siblings Kevin McGetrick, Suzanne Doucette, James “Riley” McGetrick, and Robert McGetrick.
A visitation will be held at Fredrick J. Chapey & Sons Funeral Home in East Islip from 4PM-8PM. Her family also invites you to join them for her funeral Mass on Saturday, July 10, at 9:15 AM at St. Mary’s Church in East Islip.

My relationship with Pattie goes back a long way. She was a loving and extraordinarily courageous person. I will forever be in awe of her willingness to move forward despite burdens of a serious illness. And I will always be in awe of her husband John whose knowledge and devotion provided Pattie the support that allowed her to carry on
