Obituary
Emma Kleemann was born on March 26, 1930 in Ketsch, Germany but currently resided in Bethpage, New York. Emma was married to Eugene Kleemann (pre-deceased) for 69 years. and is survived by her beloved family. She was a loving mother to John, Rosemarie (pre-deceased), Eugene, Rosanne, Richard, and Corrine as well as Diana (daughter-in-law), and Tom (son-in-law). Emma was so proud of her grandchildren Kymberly, Jake, Marissa and Danny. Emma loved to entertain and cook for her family, gardening, knitting, sewing and was a member in a local German club. Emma was most known for her love story as she met Eugene while he was stationed in Germany. They both wrote each other letters for more than 3 years before Eugene asked Emma to marry him. Eugene then convinced the president of Columbia University to help bring Emma to the U.S., so the two could wed. Within one month of Emma being an American citizen, the two tied the knot. A few years later they started their family and traveled to Germany often to visit Emma's family.
A visitation service will be held on Thursday, May 27 at Chapey & Sons, in Bethpage from 4-8pm. Donations can be made in Emma's name to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America or ASPCA.

Hi Oma,
It makes me sad that you are no longer with us, but I know you are where you are supposed to be- with your soulmate. I hope you and Opa are happy to be in each other’s arms again and watching over us all. You were the best grandma a girl could ask for - always giving us endless love, laughter and FOOD. No one cooks the way you did, food is just not the same.
You were always there when we needed you, watching me for 10 years. I never needed a babysitter when we had you - always letting me watch TV, do puzzles with Opa, play in the pool, sleep in, eat oatmeal, cereal, ice cream, crumb cake, Entenmann’s donuts and making me the worlds best breakfast. Your GOULASH and weekly hamburgers and meatloaf were to die for! Mom always knew when Opa was watching me though because my clothes and diapers were on backwards LOL!
I will always cherish the memories we all made together. Every single holiday was spent together. You always had the best decorations from the Christmas tree, gnomes outside, candy canes in the front yard, Easter eggs in the backyard, and our yearly tradition of chocolates in the advent calendar. I remember always finding money under the place mats on the dressers ;D Walking into your house will never be the same without you. The glue that held our family together. You lit up the room and everyone loved you. There was never a time that we went out somewhere - grocery store, out east or a street fair where you did not meet someone new (or had an older man hit on you) :D every one adored you and loved your accent. From your gardening, to you sowing skills and your cooking - you were one of a kind daughter, mother, wife and grandmother. You and Opa provided a wonderful life to all your children. Your love story goes unmatched and something I truly hope to find one day. It makes me sad that neither of you will be at my wedding, but I know you will be there in spirit, watching down on me and sending your love.
Some of my favorite memories are when we would go to street fairs together. Trying new beers, shopping and walking around enjoying life together. When I look back at photos, you are always by my side - whether that’s in the pool, Easter egg hunts in the yard, sitting by the fire, pumpkin picking, wineries, backyard BBQs, or dancing to Christmas music or the funny stuffed animals - you were always the life of the party and there for every mile stone in our lives. Another memory I always think back to is the cruise we went on. We had unlimited food and yet every time we went out to eat, you managed to stuff some leftovers in your purse “just in case.” Never new when that ketchup bottle would come in handy :D
Life will not be the same without you. Every time I see a penny I think it's Opa and recently I have been seeing lady bugs, thinking that’s a sign from you. Keep showing up in my dreams, I might wake up crying, but it really is nice to see you. I miss you guys every day.
We will always remember you and the memories made together, forever in our hearts. I love you Oma, until we see each other again <3 xoxo Kymberly

HI Mommy! How is Heaven treating you? I miss you so much as we all do. Was daddy surprised to see you? What a dumb question. I hope you are happy together and finally at peace. I will talk to you again soon. Please send me signs.

Dear Oma,
I still remember sitting in the TV room watching cartoons when you had to watch me. I remember dipping the buttered bread in the coffee you made me. I will never forget the taste of your coffee. I also wish you could have taught me a little German.
Love always

Dear Mommy,
I feel so lost without you and miss you so much already. I lost you awhile ago with the Dementia, but at least I was able to see and touch you. I will miss all the Holidays we shared as a family. Soar to the Heaven's with the angels to lead you right to Daddy, the love of your life you haven't seen In 3 years. Then you will see your daughter, Rosemarie, and the rest of your family and so many friends. I will think about you everyday and I will see you again never to let you go.
Love you always,
The baby of the family

Dear Mom/Oma,
You have always been the best mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother to us and the glue that holds our family together - making sure each and everyone of us is healthy, safe and feels LOVED!!! You were always making friends with anyone you came across and know you were loved by so many!!!
We will always treasure the memories we made at the Kleemann household from our BBQ's to our family holidays - with daddy entertaining us with the toys and animals, bingo and card games, easter egg hunts and the amazing Christmas tree you decorated each year. So glad that we had so much time to spend with you on our family vacations and just hanging out. We love you so much and will celebrate your life as if you wanted us to - with much laughter, german songs, cold beers, wine and love and kisses.
May you and daddy be together now and at peace and know that you can look down on us and see our family grow and flourish.
Keep dancing and singing and know we will always be thinking of you both and you will forever remain in our hearts always!!!
Love always and forever,
Diana, Richie and Kymberly

November 15th 1987 was the first time I met Emmi. Almost 34 years later we had our last halo. I will miss you so much. Thank you for so many memories, for being my second mom, and for Corrine. I am sad for me but, happy for you because you are finally back with dad. That was a true love story and I know you are where you want to be. Your time on earth is done. Go rest high on that mountain in Germany with dad.
Dir Gehort Mein Herz (You’ll be in my heart)
We don’t say good bye.
