Obituary
Kathleen Kegel, age 63, passed away suddenly on February 23, 2021. She was born on October 17, 1957 in Brooklyn, New York to David and the late-Margaret Kegel. As an astounding career-driven woman, Kathleen worked first as a registered nurse at St. Vincent’s Hospital. She obtained her B.S.N. at Hunter College, and then her law degree at St. John’s University. She was admitted to the NY State Bar in 1995 passing on her first attempt. She worked at Schiavetti Geisler Corgan as a lawyer, and then became a claims examiner at FOJP.
She is survived by her two daughters, Emma and Olivia, her father David, her two brothers Kevin and Michael, and nephew, Kevin Jr.
Kathleen was a devoted mother, who absolutely adored her children, always supporting them in their academic and creative endeavors. She was a wonderful cook and always encouraged sit down dinners with her children every night, a memory they will treasure with them always. She was a hard worker all through her life, attending night classes to become a lawyer while working at St. Vincent’s during the day. Kathleen was a remarkable woman, who opened her heart to raising two beautiful girls from China. She will be missed immensely by the lives she touched and the children she raised.

I worked with Kathy at HIC from 2006 - 2013. I remember her being a lovely woman who was a hard worker and dearly loved her girls. Kathy wood share stories about how the girls were traveling all over with their ice skating. I also remembered when they got a dog and Emma's communion party. On her desk she also had a lovely picture of the girls and their friends on the beach wearing all white while vacationing in the Outer Banks.
I am so sorry for your loss. My deepest sympathies to you all.

I'm so sorry to hear about Kathy. She and I shared an office together back in 1994 when we were both new attorneys and we worked together for close to 10 years. I have many fond memories of her; she was a good friend and co-worker. I am truly saddened to hear of Kathy's death. My thoughts and prayers are with her daughters, whom I know she cherished, and her family.

My deepest condolences to Kathy's family during this difficult time. I've always admired Kathy's dedication to work and her family. I've worked with her for the last 10 years and every time we spoke she mentioned her daughters. She would light up and speak of Emma and Olivia with so much love and pride. She will be missed. I pray for Emma and Olivia's strength during this time. May she rest in peace.

I'm so heartbroken for Olivia and Emma who were the light of Kathy's life. We spent hours over the years that we worked together sharing stories about our daughters. Kathy's eyes would always brighten when she talked about the accomplishments, goals, plans of each of her daughters and, of course, their Skittles. My heart goes out to you, Olivia and Emma. Be strong and know you were very dearly loved.
