Obituary

PFEIFFER- Marlene M., 86, of West Islip, LI, passed away in her home surrounded by family on December 17, 2020. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 62 years, Robert E. Pfeiffer. Devoted mother of Deborah (George Nolan) Pfeiffer, Maureen (Jim) Kelly, Kathleen Pfeiffer, Kevin (Cindy) Pfeiffer, Chris (Lea Darley) Pfeiffer, Colleen (Cliff) Gates and the late Baby Robert. Cherished grandmother of Aubrey, Evan, Gavin, Makali and Elena, all of whom she affectionately called ‘pumpkin.’ Dearest older sister to John Joseph McGuire. Beloved sister-in-law of William Pfeiffer, Laurie McGuire, Rita McGuire and Patricia Pfeiffer. “Aunt Molly” to her namesake Marlene Mulligan and many nieces and nephews. Lifelong friend of Linda Young. Tenderly cared for by her devoted aide Lorna Wiggins. In her youth, Marlene appeared on Broadway in “The Ziegfeld Follies of 1943” and continued with the cast to Chicago. Milton Berle’s autograph remained a special memento. She was a ‘mean’ basketball player on her championship high school team in the Bronx. An avid gardener, Marlene enjoyed tending to her colorful flowers and garden ‘animals.’ She was a superb cook who welcomed family and friends with her secret red sauce, chicken cutlet parmigiana and percolated coffee. Marlene was a voracious reader and will be remembered fondly by the golfers at the West Sayville Golf Course who waited patiently (sometimes) for refreshments while she finished her latest book. Viewing and burial are private. Celebration of the Liturgy of Christian Burial Tuesday December 22 at 9:30 AM at Our Lady of Lourdes R.C. Church, West Islip. For the safety of all, mask wearing and social distancing required at the Church. (Visit chapeyfamily.com and ollchurch.org for streaming of the viewing and funeral mass, respectively).
