I worked with Jerry at Atlas Air. His office was next to mine. We would have great conversations and a lot of those conversations were about family. He was so close to his children and grandchildren, which was very important to him. He also shared his experiences in the aviation industry, which I found fascinating. He also shared his stories about when he first started with Atlas. I am truly heartbroken about his passing. He was such a nice nice man and truly a gentleman. He will be missed dearly.

To the family of Jerry Cibelli,
I worked with Jerry for many years at Atlas Air. He was one of the hardest workers I have ever met. A true stalwart worker of the aviation industry. I attended his party when he was honored by the FAA- so many people offered their incredible tributes to Jerry. I am sure his smile will be missed by all his friends and family. I am sending my prayers during this difficult time.

My sincerest condolences to the Cibelli Family.
I knew Jerry when I worked with him at Atlas Air and would see him from time to time even after I left there in 2008 to go to the FAA. Sometimes I would see him on the Southern State in his Pontiac Fiero. I know he loved those cars, he had a few. He was a gentlemen and a great guy to know. I always enjoyed talking to him. I will miss the conversations we had because they were always filled with laughter. He will be missed!
Regards,

Your Dad and Grandfather was a prince of a man, slow to anger but quick with a smile. In the most tense of situations, his sense of calm put all at ease. His laugher was infectious.
Jerry was an icon in the industry - loved and respected by all. We would walk through industry events and he was constantly being approached by airline professionals wanting to borrow a few minutes of his time.
He was also quite open about his love of family and was so proud of his children and grandchildren. I know losing such a terrific person has to be so painful but please know that God is embracing Jerry and thanking him for providing such an excellent example for others to follow and also likely sharing a laugh at one or more of his stories. May God bless you all.

Jerry was one of the finest people I ever had the pleasure to know and work with. From business trips around the world to just sitting and talking, he was a joy to be around. He had an endless supply of stories about his family, PanAm, aviation and just life in general. He loved his work life but more than anything, he loved his family. He will be greatly missed.

Jerry was a good friend dating all the way back to our days at Pan Am. A wonderful guy with a great sense of humor and an unmatched work ethic. Jerry and I got to be close over the CRAF program that Jerry managed at Pan Am. We got Atlas up and going with a group of other Pan Am survivors in the early 90's and it was nothing but a great ride all along. I wish Jerry's family sincerest condolences. Rest in Peace Jerry.

I just heard the sad news of Jerry’s passing. I have so many early memories of Jerry and Jeannie (who was the first-born girl in my grandparent’s family tree and the daughter of my father’s sister, my dear Aunt Helen). To me, Jeannie and Jerry were the older cousins, more than a decade my senior. From a kid’s vantage point I saw them when they first started dating; I was excited when Jerry would show up in his “cool” hotrods; and I welcomed saying hello to him each time my mother and I would stop to fill up the car at the gas station on the corner of Randall and Tremont Avenues in the Bronx where Jerry started out in life as an auto mechanic. I don’t remember the exact year in the Sixties, but I was honored to be in the wedding party (ring-bearer) at Jerry’s wedding to Jeannie on April 4 (which happens to coincide with the date of my birth) and I vividly recall Jerry pushing Jeannie on a big swing as part of the festivities at the reception.
What I treasure most of all about Jerry was his personality – positive, upbeat, a great infectious smile; an all-around decent human being - and how respectful of and strongly rooted to family he was. Even after Jeannie’s passing, Jerry religiously attended the wakes of his elder in-law Aunts and Uncles. What a guy!
As a kid, I lived under a flight path to LGA. Jerry knew I had an aviation band radio on which I avidly listened to the air traffic controllers communicating with the pilots on their final approach and he was aware that I loved when my father would take me to JFK where we’d stand at the end of the runway watching jet planes take off. So, it is Jerry’s love of aviation that stands out most of all for me --- as well as his generosity in sharing that passion with a young teenager like me when he invited and took me onto to the darkened flight deck of the then-new Boeing production line Pan Am 747 while it was in for service. I remember him saying to me that a landing was just a “controlled crash”: a magical experience for me. (I still listen to air traffic control but at SAN whose flight path I live over now, and I will now think of Jerry whenever I do so.)
I feel very sorry to hear that Jerry’s final approach in life was a rocky one, but I pray that he landed intact and is surrounded now by those in his family who touched down before him. Thank you, Jerry; thank you for the man you were and the difference you made to me, your co-workers, your friends, your family and to the world.
Deep condolences to Elena, Captain Louis and Michael (whom I’m sorry to say, other than Elena as baby, I’ve never met) for the loss of their second parent, a major life-changing event. I hope that each of Jerry’s remaining children, as well as his grandchildren, find some solace in knowing that both Jerry and Jeannie are within each of them (as Jerry’s and Jeannie’s parents were in Jerry and Jeannie) and that to treasure each other is to treasure both of them as well as their ancestors, a good stock of people perpetuated in the Cibelli family’s tree of life.

I worked with Jerry for 20 years at Atlas and he was instrumental and providing me guidance with his over 50 years expertise in the industry. The last several years at Atlas we had offices side by side and would chat about politics, the Giants and life frequently. I remember when my daughter was born and Jerry told me how she would change my life forever. He was right! Jerry was a wonderful person and will be missed. I wish his family nothing but the best and to reminisce of all the great times as that is how he would want to be remembered.
