Obituary

In Loving Memory Ellen Steffann McGowan 10-19-47 to 5-10-20 Ellen Steffann McGowan of Barnegat NJ , passed away after a courageous battle with cancer at age 72. Born October 19th 1947 , Ellen was 1 of 10 children. Ellen spent her childhood in Hempstead NY, later went on to marry and raise 2 children in West Islip NY. For several years Ellen worked for Nassau County living in Merrick NY , finally retiring to Barnegat NJ.

Ellen is survived by her two children Jennifer Reese and Kevin McGowan, daughter in law Amy McGowan, grandsons: Conor Reese , James Reese, and Finn McGowan. Ellen leaves behind 4 sisters , 4 brothers, and in laws. Mary Leverich, Margaret Steffann ( Mickey), Clare Vamosy (Steve), Elizabeth Roger (Baron), James Steffann (Sharon), John Steffann, Richard Steffann, Peter Steffann (Leigh), Barbra Steffann and many beloved nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents Joan and Clifford Steffann, brother Lawrence Steffann, brother in law William Leverich and sister in law Lee Steffann. Ellen will be deeply missed by many. She was an incredibly dedicated, loving, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Ellen never missed an opportunity to celebrate the people she loved and to be there for her family and friends when ever she could. Sadly Ellen passed away at Sloan Kettering Memorial hospital in NYC , Sunday May 10, 2020 . A memorial will be held at a later date
