Over the last few years I’ve spent many days playing cards with Kevin “Duck “ Cusack. Besides being a talented card player Kevin was always a gentleman, who was kind to everyone. As a former history teacher Kevin was very knowledgeable and opinionated. I always looked forward to discussing the previous nights episode of Jeopardy with him. For all who knew him he will be greatly missed. I guess in heaven you don’t have to occasionally sneak pastry, you can just eat them freely. You may be gone but will never be forgotten. Rest In Peace. Ramsey

I was so sad to hear from Donna of my childhood friend passing. Kevin & I literally grew up together from the age of 4 all the way through high school. We lived across the street from each other on Clinton Ave in Lindenhurst. Although he went to catholic school & I to public that didn't stop us from hanging out together at every opportunity we had. My mom was his bus driver for many years that he attended the OLPH in town.
After High School we went our separate ways until 2012, when we reconnected and would get together every year at least once or twice for lunch and reminisce about all the shenanigans we went through when we were young. If you ever saw the movie Sandlot, then you would know what our summers were like as kids.
I have so many childhood stories that I could share, but my absolute favorite was the year that Kevin got a brand new bow & arrow set complete with the big bulls eye like you see at the range. So we set it up in his backyard & started practicing our marksmanship. Everything was going fine until Kevin taking careful aim, released the arrow & overshot the target. We all watched as the arrow sailed up over the bullseye and landed in the next door neighbors yard. The next door neighbors (Prevete was their name) had an above ground swimming pool and the arrow came to rest right into the side of the pool about half way up. The arrow was perfectly positioned horizontal to the ground and pierced right though the side of the pool, however there was no water coming out. That is until Kevin pulled out the arrow and a gentle stream of water began to flow.
I'm going to miss my friend.

The best Social Studies teacher I ever had at Reed. And my siblings were also lucky to have him as their teacher too. He had a beautiful soul. RIP

A legend at the Reed Middle school and one of the reasons I became a social studies teacher. Leader of the building, mentor to younger staff, and one of the best teachers I ever had. Room 119 will always be his and his podium will always remain!!

My mentor, my friend, my brother,
I dedicate to you: the Kenny Rogers song “You Can’t Make Old Friends.”
Thinking back - you were the sculptor of Mount Rushmore.
As per Inherent the Wind: “A giant once lived in that body.”
So many lives are better because of you and so many lives will never be the same without you.
