Kirk and I first met Dominic on the roof deck of 360 West 22nd in the summer of 2018 when Dominic invited us to join his friends for strawberry cosmos because, of course, he had made enough to share. From that auspicious beginning, we developed an easy friendship where conversations easily morphed from casual to cerebral. We bonded over a shared love of sunsets, red wine, cocktails and a desire to make our building a truly connected community. We talked about wine making and the future of America’s youth. In the weeks before he passed away, we favorite breakfast cereals and rock documentaries, and how to approach a delicate topic with a neighbor. He was, as others have said, an incredibly warm, intelligent, empathetic person whoh had a great capacity for inclusion, and always made each of his individual friends feel special and important with a kind word, text or note. But he was also a serious businessman and leader who ran an excellent meeting and brought divergent views together, while also baking a delicious pound cake for us to consume when the meeting was over. The photos below were taken on one of those balmy sunset summer evenings on our building’s roof deck, and on a cold winter’s night at the Intersect by Lexus cocktail bar in the meatpacking district. We will always remember Dominic and feel so fortunate to have enjoyed the gift of his friendship. Our deepest sympathies to his family and all his far flung friends.

Dominic was my first friend when I moved into the building. He loved people. Friendly, funny, outgoing, genuinely helpful and caring. We shared many cooking experiences and I will never forget how he made me laugh with his wit and perfect timing. He left too soon- we had so many plans for the summer, so many dinners, so many wine tastings. I know he is in a better place and I will miss him terribly. Until we meet again my friend- farewell!

Dear Dominic, You were a light that never stopped shining, a good friend, wonderful neighbor and thoughtful, caring human being. There was not a day we shared that I did not go away feeling happier in some way, even if it were just running into you in the hallway. Your optimistic and pragmatic view of life was a balm when I needed a chat. I will miss our roof top dinners, wine with Maddow and those impromptu dinners, drinks and chats that good neighbors need not schedule. I will feel your loss for a long time and will treasure the memories of all the wonderful times we did get to share together. Goodbye my dear friend.

I am in shock to have learned of Dom's passing. I met Dominic in 1986 at Cornell University. We were both graduate students there at the time and he was my graduate assistant. Dominic's humor and light-hearted nature made the rest of that time fly by. We had remained friends since the Cornell/Ithaca years. He had visited me and my family in Potsdam, NY numerous times since then and we were able to get down to Bushkill a few times as well. We collaborated on a few professional projects and I was so happy to hear that he'd become tenured at Sussex Community College and most recently was serving as a dean. I last saw Dom in the Spring of 2018. We met up in Lake George, NY for the weekend. We ate and wandered around. Enjoyed the Lake George region before tourist season. We did nothing extraordinary but we had a wonderful time. After our visit, Dom wrote me an e-mail saying he really enjoyed our get together especially getting hot fudge sundaes at Stewarts. Whenever I go into Stewarts I will think of Dom. We talked about trying to meet up in Ithaca last fall or maybe this spring. Now that will never be. I feel fortunate to have had Dom as a good friend in my life (he was a brother from another mother). May he rest in peace.

So blessed to have all the memories, good times, glasses of wine, Florida adventures, beach days, conversations, hugs, and kind words from Uncle Don. Always ready to recommend a new movie, show or recipe to me and encourage me and Dan as parents. He always brought a smile to Grace and Lily's faces and they would always eagerly wait for him by the window when they heard he was coming to visit. We miss you, Uncle Don and love you so much. Love reading all these messages from his many friends and colleagues. Please keep them coming.
