The Convoy Cup Norway committee wants to honor Einar Magnus Dyrland for his service during the second world war in the norwegian merchant fleet. His service was perhaps exposed for one of the greatest dangers in war time when sailing across the North Atlantic. It was also an important mission. Winston Churchill once said that having the norwegian merchant fleet serving the allied forces was like "having an additional one million combat troops".
It is hard for us, so many years after the war, to understand the horrors Einar and more than 30 000 norwegian sailors had to live in during years of war service. We can only try to understand and be grateful.
The Convoy Cup Norway committee wants to make a contribution to St. Jude’s Children Hospital as a last honor to Einar Magnus Dyrland. Also attached a photo of the vessel M/S Sophocles that Einar was serving on during WWII.
