Salvatore was born in Brooklyn, NY on January 21, 1927 and was raised in Cedarhurst, N.Y. He attended Lawrence High School and then enlisted in WWII from 1945-1946 and served on the USS Alabama and USS Massachusetts. He returned after WWII to complete high school. Salvatore joined Lawrence Cedarhurst Fire Department as a volunteer and was promoted to Lieutenant from 1947-1961. He Attended Pratt University majoring in Engineering and worked at Sperry Gyroscope Company from 1950-1964. He moved to Bellmore 1961 and worked at Grumman Aerospace from 1964-1992 and worked on the E2C Hawkeye as Engineering Project Leader. Salvatore was an avid golfer and bowler.
