Obituary of Ron Zollo

Our Man of Steel Ron Zollo bravely entered the next phase of his life on Thursday, January 3, 2019. A Brooklyn native, born a fighter, left a fighter surrounded by the most important thing to him, the love of his family. Ron was born to Rose (Spano) and Peter Zollo on September 9, 1947 in Brooklyn, NY. The oldest of four children he often told tales of his misadventures with childhood friends Ralph, Louie, Joe (Sudsy), Vinny, Frank and Jimmy. As he mastered the title “Jack of all trades” through life, Ron became a Class A Machinist and cable splicing technician for Ma Bell, where he met his best friend and brother from another mother Greg Kurdzos. This lifetime friendship continued as they entered the police academy together and Ron eventually found his calling as a New York City Police Officer. He honorably retired from the NYPD after 20 years and 1 day of service. Since that day, Ron missed being a police officer and the camaraderie that came with it. In his “retirement” Ron took on the job of a school bus driver for Suffolk County priding himself on tough love and teaching the children manners. Throughout his life he served as the family and neighborhood handyman, inventor and tool outlet. If it was broke, he could fix it, if you needed something, he could make it and if he had the tool, he would lend it to you.

Ron lived his life the only way he knew with passion, conviction and a commitment to his family. Amongst all his treasures the love he shared with his wife Maureen was the greatest. There was never a day that went by where he didn’t put her on a pedestal and said “I love that woman”. Together they built a family that is heartbroken over his passing. He continues to watch over his children Jeremy, Christie (Jay Schweizer), and Kelly (Paul Weiss) and eight beloved grandchildren Aedan, Alanah, Alexia, Savannah, Maureen, Peyton, Cori and Christopher. Ron was a beloved brother, brother-in-law and uncle to his fourteen nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by his sisters, Jeanette (Roy), Lorraine (Ira); his brother Ken (Debbie) and his wife’s siblings; Jimmy (Barbara), Kathy (Jim), Eileen (Mario) and Brian (Liz).

Ron never liked to just say goodbye to his family and friends. So in his own words we ask that you all –“Be good, be careful.”
