Obituary of Rita La Piana

LA PIANA - Rita, (nee Petrillo), 93, of West Islip, LI, on July 28, 2016. Beloved wife of the late Frank La Piana. Devoted mother of Maria Teresa La Piana, Laura Simonsen and Fran Gibson. Cherished grandmother of Diana, Jamie Rose, Kristina, Vincent, James, Cheryl and Juliette and great grandmother of Leo. Dear sister of Norma Johnson. Rita was a graduate of New Utrecht High School, Brooklyn, NY, and was a professional Opera singer, raised a family and continued to sing for various church and community events. Rita worked in the West Islip School District as well as the New York State Unemployment Office. Reposing at The Fredrick J. Chapey & Sons West Islip Funeral Home, 1225 Montauk Hwy. (1/4 mile west of the Robert Moses Cswy.). Celebration of the Liturgy of Christian Burial Monday 10:30 AM at Our Lady of Lourdes R.C. Church, West Islip, LI. Interment to follow at Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton, LI. Visiting Sunday 2:00PM until 4:00PM and 7:00PM until 9:00PM.
